“Da Vinci - The Genius” Exhibit Opens at The Venetian

Da Vinci – The Genius, the most comprehensive exploration of Leonardo da Vinci’s work ever created is presently on display at Imagine Exhibitions Gallery, located off the main reception lobby inside The Venetian.  The exhibition is open to the public beginning June 15 for a limited engagement.

Da Vinci – The Genius celebrates the full scope of Leonardo da Vinci’s psyche as an inventor, artist, anatomist, sculptor, engineer, musician and architect. The interactive exhibition features 13 compelling themed areas of da Vinci’s work, offering visitors an unmatched look inside the mind of the man who laid the groundwork for some of modern society’s most impactful inventions, such as the helicopter, airplane and automobile.  Featured in the exhibit are models from the ideas he conceived such as a drawing of a submarine, replicas of the first armored vehicle or tank, the Trojan Horse of its time: a wooden structure for storming walls of a castle or fortress, and other weapons of destruction.  And, odds are you never knew the mastermind created the first ever humanoid robot. A replica of the robot, which resembles a “knight in armor from Medieval times”, is available for guests to view as well as touch. Guests will also enjoy a glimpse into da Vinci's mysterious alphabet and writing techniques as they browse touch screen versions of his actual codices.

French scientific engineer and examiner of fine art, Pascal Cotte, whose research revealed the Secrets of Mona Lisa conducted a scientific analysis that revealed dozens of secrets about history’s most elusive art piece, all verified and approved by the Louvre Museum. The exhibit showcases Cotte's studies and 25 of his most compelling revelations, illustrated by 40 super magnified, high resolution sectional images exploring every aspect of the work.

Mr. Cotte was on hand at the media reception Tuesday evening June 19, and he offered some fascinating information about the one of the world's most famous paintings, which is the centerpiece of this extraordinary exhibit.

In responding to the often asked question why the Mona Lisa is so famous, Cotte said, “The answer is inside the painter's technique. Da Vinci, (who was way ahead of his time) “used a new technique called “glazing” which was very sophisticated. To get the shadows on the face, a single layer of glaze was applied. Then, after waiting a week for it to dry, an additional layer was added per week for 10 to 25 weeks to create the shadow.”  These and other interesting facts about the Mona Lisa are discovered during a visit to Da Vinci -The Genius.

Other highlights include reproductions of “Virgins of the Rocks”, “The Annunciation”, the controversial new da Vinci discovery “Bella Principessa”, amazing anatomical sketches, the preparatory drawings of the “Anghiari Battle” and three dimensional interactive presentations of “The Las Supper”, the “Vitruvian Man” and the “Sforza Horse” sculpture that offer never-before-seen perspectives of these famous works.

“It's a perfect complement to the Venetian's summer long Carnevale festival and the emerging arts community in Las Vegas”, stated John Caparella, President of the Venetian.

I found "Da Vinci - The Genius" to be an educational and fascinating, must see display of art for the entire family to experience.

Presented by Imagine Exhibitions, Da Vinci – The Genius is open daily from June 15 to October 15 at The Venetian® in Las Vegas. Admission prices are $25 for adults, $23 for seniors/military, $20 for Nevada Residents and $18 for children ages 12 and under.
