Pete Willcox Pays Tribute to Elvis with “The King Lives” at Hooters Hotel Casino

Elvis tribute artist Pete Willcox opened his show “The King Lives” Friday, April 2 in the Night Owl Showroom at Hooters Hotel and Casino.

Pete Willcox has been performing as Elvis for more than forty years. His career resume includes guest appearances on TV shows such as Cheers, Alf, The Hogan Family, Designing Women, Murphy Brown, L.A. Law, and he even portrayed the voice of Elvis that played on the jukebox on an episode of Happy Days.

Of course, that was then and this is now. So, the question is how does he compare with other present day Elvis lookalikes and soundalikes. First of all, while most Elvis impersonators recall the King in his heyday, when he was tall and slim and dressed in his iconic white bling filled jumpsuit, these days Willcox comes on stage resembling the older, heavy set Elvis, wearing a red sparkly blazer and black shirt and pants. Secondly, though Willcox is close to turning 68, he still possesses the handsome looks, charisma, and similar voice of the King of Rock and Roll.

Yes, Willcox's vocal impression of Elvis is impressive. Backed by a four piece band and two female singers Willcox delivers the goods as one of the best Elvis tribute artists around. Along with a lineup of treasured hits such as CC Rider, Burning Love, Teddy Bear, Hound Dog, Heartbreak Hotel, Jailhouse Rock, Memories, Love Me Tender, Suspicious Minds and more, he covers other songs that he says “may have been recorded by Elvis later in his career.”

“I’m going to take the stage just as Elvis would, if he were alive today” stated Willcox. We’re certainly going to have fun.”

Willcox does just that with the right mix of humor, personality and talent to entertain the crowd. He also adds a unique twist that I have never seen from any other Elvis tribute artist; performing a hip hop version of “All Shook Up” that is loads of fun.

Even though, as they say, Elvis has the left the building, “The King Lives” through Pete Willcox's engaging, dynamic tribute to the iconic performer. For that I say, “Thank you, thank you very much!”

Show times for The King Lives! are Wednesdays through Sundays at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are only $24.99
