“Elvis Presley’s Heartbreak Hotel in Concert” is the only Elvis production in Las Vegas authorized by Authentic Brands Group, owner of Elvis Presley Enterprises, LLC. Inspired by the musical originally written and directed by Floyd Mutrux and now adapted for the stage by Ivan Menchell, the concert version of the show in Las Vegas is being staged by Broadway veteran Jeff Calhoun. Unlike previous versions of the show, the Las Vegas production focuses on the music and is a concert performance.

Brad Paisley Headlines 19th Annual Governor’s Black-Tie Event To Support Local Charities

Olympia Companies SH Charitable Foundation (OCSHCF) kicked off its 19th Annual Governor’s Black-Tie Event recently (April 11 – 13) at Southern Highlands Golf Club and M Resort Spa & Casino. Supported by the Governor of Nevada since its inception, the Governor’s Black-Tie continues to be the premier fundraising event in the state of Nevada.

The three-day gala began Thursday with the Governor’s Grand Bash highlighted by a patriotic tribute from Las Vegas local Daniel Emmett.

Headlined by three-time  Grammy Award winner Brad Paisley, OCSHCF raised $1.3 million dollars during the annual event. With this year’s fundraising effort, the OCSHCF has now raised more than 20 million dollars for local charities.

Money raised from the weekend will support nine local charities including Boys and Girls Club of Southern Nevada, Candlelighters, Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation, Children’s Heart Foundation, Assistance League of Las Vegas, Opportunity Village, Andson, Discovery Children’s Museum, and The Folded Flag Foundation.

Since 2001, Olympia Companies SH Charitable Foundation, (formerly Southern Highlands Charitable Foundation,) founded by Garry Goett and Guy Inzalaco has led the charge to improve the quality of life for women and children in Southern Nevada by donating monies from its various fundraising events and numerous philanthropic endeavors.

Friday saw newly-elected Governor Steve Sisolak and Mr. Goett welcome guests to the black-tie reception dinner at Southern Highlands Golf Club, as well as the start of the two-day golf tournament, which wrapped Saturday afternoon with a million-dollar shot competition and closing awards ceremony.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled about the event and the generosity of our guests,” said Garry Goett, founder of Olympia Companies SH Charitable Foundation and CEO of Olympia Companies, developer of Skye Canyon and Southern Highlands. “We started this in 2001 with a vision to improve the quality of life for women and children in Southern Nevada. Supporting charities that align with our vision is a priority for us at Olympia, and we work very hard to make sure the Governor’s Black-Tie champions this cause. We are grateful for the work of our charity partners and the support of Governor Sisolak and this year’s attendees.”

The District at Green Valley Ranch Raises $5,000 for Human Trafficking Victims

The District at Green Valley Ranch, a mixed-use shopping, dining and lifestyle center in the Las Vegas Valley, held a “Help for the Hopeless” benefit on May 4 that raised $5,000 to aid Seeds of Hope, a program of the Salvation Army Southern Nevada that aids the victims of human trafficking in reclaiming their lives. Services provided by the Seeds of Hope organization include a 24-hour hotline, alternative housing, food and basic necessities as well as working with victims to establish life and parenting skills and provide long-term specialized counseling, medical and dental treatment, educational assistance and job training. The Seeds of Hope typically assists over 150 victims per year ranging in age from 12 to 60 – though they have assisted at least one victim as young as 9 years old.

The Help for the Hopeless benefit event, which attracted over 1,000 attendees, included a guest appearance from Hollywood celebrity Matt Lanter which drew significant attention to the cause. Lanter, a television and film heartthrob, kicked off the benefit with a short speech denouncing the damage human trafficking inflicts on its victims and proclaiming their desperate need for help in rebuilding shattered lives. Lanter often uses his celebrity status to draw attention to worthy causes including pediatric AIDS and now, with his appearance at The District at Green Valley Ranch’s “Help for the Hopeless” event, human trafficking. Following his remarks, Lanter remained on hand for an exclusive meet-and-greet with attendees where he signed autographs and posed for pictures - a significant draw for the event and a boon to the cause.

While attendees enjoyed a host of great wine, beer and food, local artists KD Matheson, Stormy Holt and Jon Salvador Gascon painted original works of art live and on-site that were auctioned during the event to also benefit Seeds of Hope. Shoppers who spent $100 or more at participating retailers received a complimentary butterfly keychain to commemorate the occasion. The theme for the original paintings created by the three local artists during the event was “survival.” In addition to proceeds from ticket sales, each piece of art was auctioned during the event and all proceeds from the art sales also benefitted Seeds of Hope.

Human trafficking is a worldwide problem that affects as many as 40.3 million people globally and encompasses both forced labor and sexual exploitation. Bringing the numbers a little closer to home, Las Vegas ranked sixth among a list of major U.S. cities with the most calls to the National Human Trafficking Hotline. Additionally, a Justice Department study cites Las Vegas as one of 17 cities across the nation most likely to be a destination for human trafficking.

“Las Vegas is one of the most vibrant and exciting cities in the world, and at The District at Green Valley Ranch here in nearby Henderson, we’re proud to call the city of Las Vegas our neighbor,” says Heath McCue, CMD, Senior Director of Marketing for the shopping center. “There are a lot of very good, very concerned people in Las Vegas who have formed a multidisciplinary team – including numerous legal, law enforcement, school district, crisis management and victim’s advocate volunteers and professionals – to combat the crime of human trafficking, and we wanted to help these dedicated people by shining a light on the problem and raising funds to assist its victims.”

In addition to raising funds for human trafficking victims, the District at Green Valley Ranch’s “Help for the Hopeless” event, sponsored by Life Realty and Me Gusta Tacos, was held to draw attention to the important work being done by the Salvation Army’s Seeds of Hope program as well as local law enforcement, government agencies and the numerous other community service organizations hard at work to identify, rescue and restore victims of all forms of human trafficking.

“Human trafficking is a crime that most people know exists, but no one thinks is happening in their own back yard,” says Brittany Hopballe, Director of the Salvation Army Seeds of Hope Program in Southern Nevada. “At Seeds of Hope, we not only exist to serve the needs of identified victims of human trafficking, but we also work hard to raise awareness about what human trafficking is and where it takes place – even when that means taking a hard look at our own lovely city. We so appreciate that The District at Green Valley Ranch has recognized the plight of human trafficking victims worldwide and has reached out to us to help shine a light on the work we’re doing to end this crime here in Nevada and to help its victims recover and lead joyful and purpose-filled lives.”
