X Burlesque Celebrates Sweet 16 on the Las Vegas Strip at Flamingo Las Vegas

X Burlesque celebrated 16 years of performances on the world-famous Las Vegas Strip with a star-studded red carpet reception at Flamingo Las Vegas on Wednesday evening, May 23. Immediately following, guests were treated to a rousing performance of the production inside Bugsy’s Cabaret, with new set pieces and dance numbers including a hip hop medley featuring Rihanna’s “Lemon” and “Bad Bitches” by Tyga, as well as a country number spotlighting “Midnight Train to Memphis” by Chris Stapleton.

Joining the X Burlesque dancers on the red carpet were show producer/directors Matt and Angela Stabile, producer/manager Tiffany Mondell and choreographer/manager Anthony Cardella. Spotted at the event was Cheryl James (aka “Salt”) of Salt-N-Pepa, as well as Jeff Timmons of 98 Degrees, Flamingo Las Vegas headliner Piff the Magic Dragon and Jade Simone, professional BMX rider Ricardo Laguna, UFC fighters Eryk Anders and Julian Marquez, burlesque star Melody Sweets, mentalist Gerry McCambridge, the Australian Bee Gees, magician Xavier Mortimer, magician Seth Grabel, guitarist Frank Sidoris, model Alexandria Finley, and dancers from sister shows X Country at Harrah’s Las Vegas and X Rocks at Bally’s Las Vegas.

Back Bar USA Hosts Fifth Annual "For the Love of Cocktails" Grand Gala in Las Vegas

Back Bar USA’s “For the Love of Cocktails” celebrated its fifth year of honoring Las Vegas’ cocktail culture, at the annual event’s grand gala, held at Skyfall Lounge and Rivea on the 64th floor of Delano Las Vegas on Saturday night, May 19.

Presented in partnership with MGM Resorts International and the United States Bartenders’ Guild, “For the Love of Cocktails” was held from 7-11 p.m., hosting hundreds of attendees buzzing with excitement while sampling the latest cocktails trends. The event showcased specialty cocktails from more than 45 mixologists, each created with a sponsored spirit.

This year’s lead mixologists were Derick Baumgartner from Lago by Julian Serrano at Bellagio and Derek Crow from Libertine Social at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Baumgartner’s featured drink was the Shot At The Night, made with Bombay Sapphire gin, Bénédictine, Orange Oleo, orange juice and lemon juice; and Crow served his Sabor Del Amor made with Herradura Silver Tequila, Grand Marnier infusion, Licor 43 and Absinthe, garnished with a dehydrated orange wedge and Moroccan nuts.

Other featured mixologists included Sarah Delgado-Rith from Rosina at The Venetian Resort-Hotel-Casino; Jair Bustillos at District One Kitchen & Bar; Cesar De La Rosa from Skyfall Lounge at Delano Las Vegas; Gary Schneck from Parlor Lounge at The Mirage Hotel & Casino and Garth Lutsko from Bavette’s Steakhouse and Bar at Park MGM Las Vegas. Other highlights of the evening included gourmet cuisine from Alain Ducasse’sRivea and live entertainment from The Moonshiners, all set to the backdrop of stunning views of the Las Vegas Strip.

The gala concluded with a check presentation by Back Bar USA to Tony Abou-Ganim’s Helen David Relief Fund, a non-profit organization that assists bartenders affected by breast cancer. “For the Love of Cocktails” has donated the proceeds to the Helen David Relief Fund since its inception, having raised more than $100,000 to date.

The Capezio Dance Awards Celebrates 130 Years of Dance


Capezio, the name that makes the world dance with their custom made, theatrical dance shoes, celebrated 130 years of excellence in a one-night only special Awards and show, Monday evening May 14, inside Reynolds Hall at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts. Host for the evenings's gala event was Nigel Lythcoe, executive producer and judge on TV's So You Think You Can Dance and past recipient of a Capezio award.

This is the first time that the Capezio Dance Awards was held in Las Vegas, and the first time the awards were presented to recipients in several dance genres. The glorious production highlighted some of the magical history of Capezio with numerous dance legends saluting this milestone.

Those honored with The Capezio Dance Foundation World of Dance Award for making a significant contribution to the art were: Debbie Allen with the Life Achievement Award as a dancer, actress, choreographer, director, teacher and producer. She was introduced to the stage by Davion Glover, Tony award winning (Bring In the Noice, Bring In The Funk) tap dancer and past recipient of the Capezio award. In the ballet genre Wendy Whelan was honored as NYCB principal ballerina, and current programs promoting emerging choreographers. David Parsons was honored for choreography as a world-renown Modern dance choreographer who has created more than 75 works; Michelle Dorrance was honored for Tap as an exceptional dancer and innovative choreographer; Steve "Mr. Wiggles" Clemente: was honored with the first Capezio Award in the genre of Hip Hop to one of its foremost leading pioneers as a dancer, inventor, choreographer, and teacher.

The event featured a special performance by Nevada Ballet Theatre and appearances and performances from California All Stars, Cirque du Soleil, Contemporary West Dance Theatre, Dorrance Dance, Ephrat Asherie Dance, Parsons Dance, Rock Steady Crew, singer Mike Minery, ballroom dance couple DNA from Jennifer Lopez's World of Dance, and So You Think You Can Dance winner Lex Ishimoto and and 2nd runner up Taylor Sieve.

The Golden Tiki Hosts the Las Vegas Preliminaries of the 10th Annual Don the Beachcomber Mai Tai Festival

The Golden Tiki hosted the Las Vegas preliminaries of the 10th Annual Don the Beachcomber Mai Tai Festival on Saturday, May 12. Andrew Pollard from Wynn Resorts won first place earning an all-expense paid trip to Hawaii to battle against the country's top bartenders for the title of the world's best Mai Tai on Aug. 18. His prize included roundtrip airfare to Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, hotel accommodations at Royal Kona Resort, and $250 food & beverage credit.

"Wow, this is amazing," said Pollard as he was handed a jumbo Bacardi U.S.A. boarding pass and adorned with a lei from Hawaii in honor of his victory. "It's great to be standing up here with these competitors, and I look forward to the finals competition."

Tim Weigel from Hakkasan Group earned second place, while William Perbellini from Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas placed third. All competitors prepared their twists on the classic Mai Tai for judges Mike Doyle, Bacardi U.S.A.'s national account portfolio manager; Jaymee Mandeville, Bacardi U.S.A.'s West Coast senior portfolio ambassador; and Branden Powers, The Golden Tiki's managing partner. Points were awarded on appearance, aroma, creativity, taste, and proficiency.

"It was a blast to host this competition at The Golden Tiki," said Powers. "We celebrate Don the Beachcomber every day, and it's great to see these top-notch competitors honor his legacy through their unique takes on the Mai Tai. They all would make strong contenders in the finals."

To qualify, bartenders submitted recipes using Bacardi Ocho, Bacardi Cuatro, or Bacardi Diez as the base spirit for their cocktail. Additionally, each stirred, shaken, or blended drink was limited to nine ingredients and needed to be made within ten minutes.

The loser of "America's Got Talent," PIFF THE MAGIC DRAGON, unveiled his shrunken head Thursday night, May 17, at The Golden Tiki. His sidekick, Mr. Piffles, got in on the action too with a miniature stuffed version.

Piff enjoyed a Dole Whip while checking out the bar's one-of-a-kind decor and Cabinet of Curiosities, stopping for a closer look at a mummified alligator, perhaps one of Piff's ancestors.

The Baron of the Universe welcomed Piff, Mr. Piffles, and showgirl Jade Simone before Managing Partner Branden Powers unveiled the head. Smithsonian artist Terry Barr sculpted the head over the course of four weeks, referencing photos of Piff to ensure physical accuracies, including his dragon scales.

"Thank you for honoring us with a tiny, shrunken head, AKA a lifesize head," said Piff.

The stars took a "shellfie" in the clamshell, before posing with fans, who showed up in Piff T-shirts.

Chippendales dancer James Davis was also in attendance.

Overhead in the crowd, "This is as Vegas as it gets."


Piff joins the bar's growing collection of famous shrunken heads, including Marky Ramone of The Ramones, Carrot Top, Frank Marino, Robin Leach, Norm Clarke, Claire Sinclair, magician Murray Sawchuck, Vinnie Paul of Pantera, Chris Phillips of Zowie Bowie, Monti Rock III, Lonnie Hammargren, and Rich Little.

On Saturday, May 5, one Lawrenceburg, Ind. resident won big during the FIFTH ANNUAL MARQUEE MILLIONAIRE SLOT TOURNAMENT AT M RESORT SPA CASINO. The UNLV MAJORIE BARRICK MUSEUM OF ART invites the public to experience IN PROCESS: EVERY MOVEMENT COUNTS, a new work and a museum-wide installation by Los Angeles-based artist ANDREW SCHOULTZ at the UNLV Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art from June 2 to Sept. 15, 2018.

Fusing museum space with the dynamic energy of streets and skateparks, Schoultz makes art that asks questions about the reality of contemporary life and global power. His installations and murals juxtapose ideas from illuminated manuscripts, ancient cartography, and the flattened space of Persian miniatures. Images of beasts, bricks, trees, and eyes surge across the walls, bringing different elements of the artist’s mark-making vocabulary into play as he charts a struggle between visual clarity and complex truth. Entrepreneur, activist and television personality Amber Rose made a rousing appearance at Flamingo Las Vegas' GO Pool. The talented personality arrived at 3:30 p.m. and kept the party going with a champagne shower over the crowd while interacting with fans.
