Marquee Nightclub Welcomes 1 Millionth Customer

Marquee Nightclub, inside the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino, welcomed its one millionth customer on Friday night, August 3.  Upon entering the nightclub, the lucky young woman was surrounded by a flurry of excitement.  Balloons and confetti fell from the ceiling as she was surprised with a giant drink ticket from Mr. Q.  She and group of friends were then whisked away to enjoy the night at a complimentary VIP table in Marquee's main room. The winner (her name was not revealed), who was visiting Las Vegas to celebrate a bachelorette party, walked away with $5,000 worth of prizes including swag, bottles and a gift card.

Comedian/Impressionist Babe Pier Passes Away

It is with great sadness to report that beloved comedian/impressionist Babe Pier (born Leon Pierfederici), a long time resident of Las Vegas, passed away at Desert Springs Hospital on Tuesday, July 31. He was 82 years old. Our sincere condolences go out to his family and all who knew and loved him.  Babe Pier is survived by his wife, Cindy Raft Pier;  brother Rollie Pier and daughter, Italia "Tali" Pierfederici.

Memorial Services for Babe Pier have been scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, August 10th, at the Palm Mortuary, 1325 North Main Street. The public is invited to attend.

At a live ‘town-hall’ press conference on Tuesday, August 7, The Venetian® Las Vegas announced the biggest musical event in its history – TIM McGRAW AND FAITH HILL 'SOUL 2SOUL”.

“Soul2Soul” at The Venetian will mark the first time in six years that country superstars McGraw and Hill, who are married, have performed together in the United States. “Soul2Soul” will feature an all-new production with innovative lighting and set design technologies that were synonymous with the “Soul2Soul” concerts. The Venetian Theater will also be modified to accommodate this new production. This limited engagement, which opens on Dec. 7 and covers 10 weekends through April 2013, will take place in the 1,815-seat Venetian Theater. Performances are scheduled for 8 and 10:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $95.50, $175.50 and $255.50 and $295.50 inclusive of tax. A ticket pre-sale will begin August  8 and tickets for the general public will go on sale Monday, Aug. 13.

At the other end of the spectrum, after just a 6 week run, Surf The Musical at Planet Hollywood is closing due to poor ticket sales. The last performance is Wednesday, August 15.

COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS OF NEVADA (CISN) and TEACH FOR AMERICA LAS VEGAS VALLEY recently received a joint award of $125,000 from the CHANGING LIVES COMMUNITY FUND to expand the CIS Academy program into Chaparral High School this fall. In a first of its kind collaboration, CISN will collaborate with select Teach For America teachers to implement the CIS Academy curriculum at Chaparral High School. Students with risk factors for drop out such as credit deficiency and poor attendance are recommended to enroll in the CIS Academy elective course where they participate in a structured curriculum focused on life skills, goal setting, and college and career exploration, with the wraparound support from a full-time CISN site coordinator.

American born artist DAVID LINDSAY'S influence of Italian painting and architecture can be seen in his unique and creative “YOU ARE HERE” EXHIBITION that is on display Wednesday-Friday, 12:30 to 9 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Sept. 1 at the Charleston Heights Arts Center Gallery, 800 S. Brush St., (702) 229-6383. Admission is FREE and open to the public.

KISS® BY MONSTER MINI GOLF®, the unique rock ‘n roll-themed amusement attraction based around the legendary band KISS®, launched a weekly, two hour ROCK TRIVIA CONTEST on Tuesday, Aug. 7 at 8 p.m. to find out if you are smarter than a rock star.  For eight weeks participants will compete against their peers for a chance to go head to head with a guest ‘rock star’ of the week. The finale will be held at Fremont Street Experience where competitors will battle it out for the ultimate grand prize; three days to jam at Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp with Sebastian Bach and the rock god himself, Gene Simmons.

Neil Diamond tribute artist, ROB GARRETT, aka the "King of Diamonds," will perform his third consecutive Hot August Night - Vegas show at the Club inside the Cannery Casino & Hotel, 2121 E Craig Road in North Las Vegas, Friday, August 10.  Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets are priced at $10.

SOCIETY OF SEVEN with former American Idol™ contestant JASMINE TRIAS opens at the Riviera Hotel & Casino on Thursday, Aug. 16.  About 40 percent or more of the show will be new and two members have joined as drummer and lead male singer. Shows nightly at 9 p.m. dark Tuesday and Wednesday. Tickets are priced at $59.95 for VIP, $44.95 for preferred and $29.95 for General Admission. Special $10 ticket “Under 7 or Over 70” with ID (All tickets do not include tax and fees.)

98.5 FM KLUC’s END OF SUMMER BLOCK PARTY returns to the Henderson Pavilion, 200 S. Green Valley Parkway, Saturday, August 18, beginning at 7 p.m. with featured performances by X Factor season one finalist CHRIS RENE, teen heartthrob AUSTIN MALONE and singer/rapper OUTASIGHT of “Tonight Is the Night” fame. Fremont Street Experience’s ‘ROCK OF VEGAS’ summer concert series will feature a FREE CONCERT by SURVIVOR Saturday, August 18 at 9 p.m. on the 1st Street Stage. Throughout the weekend, visitors can also enjoy free entertainment on three stages as the 100-day ‘Rock of Vegas’ summer concert series continues downtown through Labor Day Weekend.

In honor of the  35th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death, THE METAL KING AND THE MONSTERS OF ROCK hits the stage at Riviera Hotel & Casino on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 17 and 18, as well as Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. The band performs twice nightly, 9 and 11 p.m, inside the Le Bistro Lounge, with the late show offering a different playlist from the earlier show. The performance on Aug. 17 will be a tribute to their inspiration, Elvis Presley, who passed away 35 years ago, Aug. 16. The Metal King and the Monsters of Rock will be giving away free scarves that resemble the famous scarves that Elvis wore on stage.

Former Saturday Night Live cast member, comedian KEVIN NEALON brings his unique sense of humor, dry wit and likeable demeanor to The Orleans Showroom August 24 and 25. Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets are available starting from $24.95, plus tax and convenience fees.

RHUMBAR, the Caribbean-inspired lounge at The Mirage Hotel and Casino celebrates National Rum Day on Thursday, Aug. 16 by offering guests buy-one-get-one Bacardi cocktails all day. Carrot Top fulfilled his Top Gun fantasy at Sky Combat Ace, Vegas’ most extreme attraction. The funnyman took the controls of the fighter jet for an aerial dogfight, feeling the thrill of “the kill” as he scored two “hits” and smoke flowed from his brother’s plane thanks to SCA’s special effects.
