Nevada Public Radio Announces Holiday Programming

Las Vegas – Nevada Public Radio has announced its special holiday programming, which runs from Hanukkah to New Year’s Eve. The seasonal programming can be heard on News 88.9 KNPR FM and Classical 89.7 KCNV FM.

Hanukkah Lights 2008
December 22, 6 to 7 p.m.
Hanukkah Lights, a National Public Radio (NPR) favorite now well into its second decade, will be hosted by Murray Horwitz and Susan Stamberg. Acclaimed authors will explore Hanukkah traditions in original stories written especially for Hanukkah Lights.

Jonathan Winters' A Christmas Carol
December 24, 6 to 7 p.m.
NPR’s Lisa Simeone will host an updated version of a public radio tradition. Master comedian Jonathan Winters will present a distinctive reading of Dickens' holiday classic, with a special performing edition prepared by Dickens for his own presentations.
Tinsel Tales: NPR Christmas Favorites
December 24, 9 to 10 p.m.
With host Lynn Neary, this program will feature stories from the NPR archives that touch on the meaning of Christmas. David Sedaris, Bailey White, John Henry Faulk, and other NPR voices from past and present will tell tales of the season.

Capitol Steps/Politics Takes a Holiday: The Year in Review
December 31, 9 to 10 p.m.
Capitol Steps, a satirical ensemble, has poked fun at the U.S. political scene for many years. They’ll tackle the events of 2008 in this memorable special.

A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols
December 24, 7 to 9 a.m. (rebroadcast December 25, 12 to 2 p.m.) 
This program will feature a live stereo music and spoken-word broadcast from the chapel of King's College in Cambridge, England. It will present the legendary Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols service (Biblical readings and music) as performed by the 30-voice King's College Choir

Chanticleer Christmas
December 24, 9 to 10 p.m.
A Chanticleer Christmas will celebrate the mystery and wonder of Christmas with an elegant blend of traditional carols, medieval and Renaissance sacred works, and moving spirituals.

St. Olaf Christmas Festival
December 24, 10 p.m. to midnight
The St. Olaf Christmas Festival, which began in 1912, is one of the oldest and most cherished celebrations of the holidays. It’s a worship service of hymns, carols, choral works, and orchestral selections commemorating the birth of Christ. Featuring more than 550 student musicians, it takes place on the St. Olaf campus in Northfield, Minnesota.

The Rose Ensemble 2008: Appalachia
December 25, 11 a.m. to noon
The program will feature gorgeous Shaker tunes, Kentucky harmonies, and Acadian dances by one of America’s premier early-music ensembles. Since it began in 1996, The Rose Ensemble has surprised and delighted audiences with musical performances from centuries past. Their 2008 Christmas program will highlight treasures of Appalachia.

A Harpist's Christmas with Yolanda Kondonassis
December 25, 2 to 3 p.m.
America’s famed harpist, Yolanda Kondonassis, will entertain listeners with a custom-created program in which she’ll play her instrument solo and with Joshua Smith on flute and Cynthia Phelps on viola.
