CITY OF HENDERSON RELEASES 2014 FALL EVENT SEASON SCHEDULE

Calendar includes concert by Disney’s Ross Lynch and R5, Ironman triathlon and two new holiday 5K runs

Henderson, Nev. – The City of Henderson unveiled its list of upcoming community events, performances and activities for the 2014 fall event season. The schedule introduces a few new events, including a community safety expo, Ironman 70.3 Silverman triathlon, two 5K runs just in time for Halloween and Christmas, and a performance by R5 with Austin & Ally’s Ross Lynch. The calendar also includes everyone’s favorite celebrations like Henderson Stroll ‘n Roll and WinterFest. All activities are affordable, most with free admission, and fit for any age.

Below is a calendar of events planned for the season. The schedule is subject to change.

R5 featuring Ross Lynch

September 12 at 7:30 p.m.

Disney superstar Ross Lynch and R5 crank up the volume this season. With the help of his bandmates, brothers Rocky and Riker, sister Rydel, and best friend Ellington Ratliff, the rising pop/rock band rock out with songs from their debut album Louder. Sing along to such tunes as “Pass Me By,” “(I Can’t) Forget About You” and “One Last Dance.”

Get into the aloha spirit with one of the valley’s biggest Pacific Islander celebrations. Travel to a tropical paradise and immerse yourself in the culture with the sights, sounds and smells of Hawaii, Tahiti and the Samoan Islands. Enjoy traditional island entertainment, crafts and food, as well as a health fair and seminars.

It’s time to get revved up for Southern Nevada’s largest car show. Hop in your Deuce Coupe, Mustang or GTO and cruise to Henderson for an automotive tribute that is sure to bring you back in time. Super Run features 1,000 hot rods and vintage vehicles, burnout and slow drags competitions, a retro fashion show, hubcap art gallery and concerts. This year’s entertainment includes do-woppers Sha Na Na of “Get a Job” fame and country newcomers Chasin’ Crazy.

Ironman 70.3 Silverman

Making its debut this year, the Ironman 70.3 Silverman combines the beauty and nature of Southern Nevada with a course that, for years, has tested the world’s top triathletes. Cheer on the competitors as they take the challenge of swimming 1.2 miles in Lake Mead, biking 56 miles through hilly terrain, and running 13.1 miles through Henderson’s scenic master-planned communities overlooking the Las Vegas Strip.

Henderson Community Expo

The Henderson Community Expo features exhibits from more than 50 area businesses, community groups and the City of Henderson, showcasing products and services for health and wellness, fire and crime prevention, and public safety. Enjoy interactive demonstrations and activities throughout the day for all age groups.

Zombie Run 5K & Family Fun Walk

Are you ready to run for your life? Lace up your sneakers and try to survive the post-apocalyptic world. Use your brains (pun intended) to outsmart dozens of hungry zombies. Or take the shorter, family-friendly route for those who do not dare to encounter the living dead. A monster mash of activities follow the run and fun walk. Participants are encouraged to wear zombie outfits and costumes.

Veterans Day Ceremony

Join city leaders, veterans and their families to pay tribute to our military heroes. The event features a presentation of names and the memorial wreath at the Veterans Memorial Wall, presentation of colors, and a music tribute to the armed services by the Henderson Symphony Orchestra.

Henderson Stroll ‘n Roll

Experience a car-free way to bike, walk, skate and play. Henderson Stroll ‘n Roll is our spin on the Ciclovia phenomenon that’s sweeping the globe. Enjoy the community’s largest car-free streets festival, spanning three parks and family fun along Paseo Verde Parkway. The celebration features children’s activities, live entertainment, fitness classes and food trucks.

Henderson 250 Desert Race

This annual off-road desert race marks the final race of the American Off-Road Racing Series. The race course is in Jean, Nevada, with technical inspection, vendors and driver/rider meet and greets hosted in the Water Street District.

Something magical is happening in Henderson this holiday season. The city creates an enchanted Christmas celebration inspired by your favorite fairytales. Enjoy a variety of family-friendly activities including an official tree lighting ceremony, visits with Santa Claus, gingerbread house displays, craft vendors and live entertainment. Don’t miss the WinterFest Evening Light Parade on December 13 at 5 p.m.

Take a break from your holiday shopping and make a dash to Henderson for a jolly good time. The inaugural Jingle Bell Run, which includes a 5K course and family fun run, rings in the winter season just in time for Christmas. Dress up in your best festive gear, from ugly holiday sweaters to reindeer antlers and elf hats, the more costumes the merrier. Be sure to decorate your outfit with jingle bells. The festivities continue after the run with a special visit from Santa.
