Kimora Lee Simmons Brings "Fabulosity" to Carnevale at The Venetian and The Palazzo Las Vegas

Designer and fashion figure, Kimora Lee Simmons kicked off the opening of Carnevale on June 11. The whimsical event took place at The Venetian on the Doge's Palace Plaza where guests previewed all facets of the summer-long Italian-inspired celebration, from Carnevale-inspired food and beverage offerings, a cast of Carnevale "lighted" characters that mingled with visitors, an iconic performance from speed painter Salvador Live!, and the melodic sounds of world-pop violin trio Alizma.

Kimora, the special hostess of the evening, arrived on a float adorned in a custom jeweled and feathered mask head piece that matched her Farah Khan hand beaded gold short mini dress and Giuseppe Zanotti heels. As she welcomed the crowd to the start of the summer festivities, she was joined by President of The Palazzo and The Venetian, Mr. John Caparella.  They both led the crowd in a countdown to the grand finale, an inaugural showing of the "Light of Venice" 3D light spectacular, during which the façade of the Clock Tower illuminated into a visually stunning light performance that seemingly brought the building to life.

Kimora finished the night by cutting the Carnevale cake. She jokingly said, “it is a wedding from Alice in Wonderland,” as she cut the cake and fed it to one of the Carnevale characters. After enjoying all the festivities outside, she headed inside for a ride on the famous Venetian gondolas with friends then to a late dinner at CUT by Wolfgang Puck.

Visitors are invited to celebrate the magic and fantasy of Carnevale this summer, featuring three months of classic Italian festivities, including new experiences, entertainment, art, music and wine from June 4 to Sept. 9.

16th Annual Electric Daisy Carnival

Insomniac worked around the clock for two weeks transforming the Las Vegas Motor Speedway into a 360-degree audiovisual carnival experience for the 16th Annual Electric Daisy Carnival. For the debut evening on Friday night, June 8, more than 70 DJs played across seven stages from dusk until dawn, including Kaskade, Sebastian Ingrosso, Benny Benassi, Afrojack, Above & Beyond and Knife Party, surrounded by more than 500 theatrical performers, fire twirlers, aerialists, dancers and stilt walkers, amid a landscape dotted with full sized carnival rides and large-scale interactive art.

The 1,000-acre complex remained a fully immersive audiovisual adventure for the next two nights with dynamic art, special effects and décor creating interactive environments along with state-of-the-art lighting and sound production and a 15-minute pyrotechnics display. Based on ticket sales, Insomniac estimated that approximately 115,000 attendees experienced the first of EDC's three nights.

The festival returned Saturday night with doors opening at 7 p.m. This evening was highlighted with special moments including Red Bull skydivers and an exclusive collaboration between Steve Aoki and Blue Man Group.

The final night of the 16th Annual Electric Daisy Carnival came to a close with 115,000 fans dancing beneath the desert sky.  The evening featured extended pyrotechnics displays on each stage, an additional fireworks show, impromptu theatrical performances throughout the crowd and a full evening of world-class music.

Insomniac concluded their first ever “You Are the Headliner” costume contest, which treated winners from each evening to all-star VIP treatment, including helicopter transfers on Maverick Helicopters and artist-style hospitality. Fans also became the feature of the festival on the debut “Discovery Stage” where aspiring DJ/Producer contest winners performed in front of a dancing crowd of their own peers.

EDC also played the setting to a another new beginning on Sunday night, as character Nigel Ficke wed a young couple as the night’s fireworks display erupted in the distance.

The third and final evening of Electric Daisy Carnival enjoyed cooperative weather, running smoothly from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.  Full-sized carnival rides gave fans a whirl all night and large-scale interactive art installations including Flaming Lotus Girls’ “Serpent Mother” were able to feature their full flame displays.

Sin City Speedway Celebrates Official Grand Opening in Las Vegas

On May 26, the same weekend that drivers in Indianapolis geared up for another 200 laps around their motor speedway, the original "Extreme Sport” of Speedway Motorcycle Racing made its long awaited debut as "The Fastest Show in Las Vegas.

”The Sin City Speedway is a 2,000 capacity facility located just south of the world famous Strip at the corner of Sunset and Las Vegas Boulevard—and next to the Las Vegas Sports Arena.

Eager fans watched some of the best names in the motorcycling world race and also enjoyed watching planes fly overhead and land at nearby McCarran International Airport, due to the Speedway's prime location, which also overlooks the skyline of the Strip. Chris Ackerman, aka "Crazy Chris,” is one of the best announcers in the speedway world and he kept the audience engaged and entertained throughout the night.

Current California State Speedway Champion and former Junior National Champion Jimmy Fishback won the Pro Main race of the night, with Gino Manzares taking second place and three time and current AMA National Speedway Champion Billy Janniro taking third.

Noted pastry chef and cookbook author Megan Romano recently opened Chocolate & Spice Bakery on 7923 W Sahara, in Summerlin. Romano, named Best Pastry Chef for 2011 by both Desert Companion and Vegas Seven magazines, came up with the concept of Chocolate & Spice, while heading the pastry kitchen at Charlie Palmer’s Aureole several years ago. She began selling her book It’s A Sweet Life and treats such as Chocolate Dipped Candied Oranges online and to several Las Vegas area cafes and has now expanded the business, devoting herself full-time to the venture and new retail space, allowing people to enjoy her creations without heading to the Strip. “I envision Chocolate and Spice Bakery to be a meeting place: for coffee and a light bite on the way to work, for a simple soup and beverage at lunch, and for a sweet bite any time of day. The interior is comfortable and casual, with space for gatherings and special occasions,” says Romano.  “My dream has been to open a bakery and this setting is the culmination of years of experience in developing a refreshing menu of specialty desserts and hand-crafted chocolate and confections, along with light savory items.
