The legendary singer is an avid supporter of our brave troops who have fought for our country and is the Chairman of the USO Celebrity Circle. Since the Viet Nam war, Newton has generously volunteered his talent and time with the USO, entertaining thousands of soldiers stationed around the globe.
The afternoon outdoor luncheon at his estate was just one way for Wayne to show his appreciation and thank those men and women in uniform who have returned home with physical wounds.
In addition to enjoying sandwiches and soft drinks, and a surprise visit from Las Vegas headliner Terry Fator who took time away from his busy schedule to meet and chat with the soldiers, guests had a chance to share some time with several extended members of Newton’s family.

Making their indelible mark was some of Newton’s beloved animals that call his Las Vegas residence home. Guests were able to get up close and personal with the most adorable, people friendly little penguin named Charlie, as well as a hilarious parrot and one of Newton’s beautiful Arabian horses.

Of course, the highlight for every veteran who attended the event had to be when the host appeared. Newton greeted each and every soldier and posed for photos. For the war veterans who have had to endure so much, it was great to see the joy and smiles on their faces and know that the afternoon at Newton’s Las Vegas ranch resulted in a wonderful experience they will always remember.

On Thursday, Nov. 12, Mary and the Maori Hi Five showband were awarded the 40th star on the Strip by the Las Vegas Walk of Stars Committee during a presentation/ceremony on the Brooklyn Bridge in front of the New York New York Hotel & Casino. Mary and the Maori Hi Five Showband
After touring the world, Mary and the Maori Hi Five arrived in the United States in 1965. In Las Vegas, they worked at the Sahara, Thunderbird, Hacienda, Tally Ho and Caesars Palace and at Harrah’s Club in Reno and Tahoe before disbanding in 1971.
The group worked with many famous stars including: Louis Prima, Keely Smith, Gia Mione, Sam Butera, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Harry James, Louis Armstrong, Mel Torme, Ray Charles, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Harry Belafonte and in 1964, they headlined with the Beatles in Hong Kong.
One member of the group, Robert Hemi Te Miha passed away in November 2007. Of the remaining members, Kae Pohe lives in Las Vegas and Solly Pohatu resides in New Zealand. The camaraderie even to this day is undeniable and they are proud to be representing the Maori race.

The group will be featured in the second part of a 12-part series being filmed for a New Zealand Maori television program “Unsung” (Heroes of Maori Music) and Frontier Films will also be filming for Australian television program called “Kia Ora Mate,” where Maori entertainers will salute Aussies for helping to start their careers.
Purple Reign Delivers The Ultimate Prince Tribute Show at Hooters
If you are a fan of Prince but haven’t been able to see him perform live in concert, without a doubt the next best thing is Purple Reign, the Ultimate Prince Tribute show that is as close to the real thing as you will ever get. The band which has played in several other Las Vegas venues, recently opened in the Night Owl showroom at Hooters Casino. I caught their act during the media night performance on Friday night, November 13.
Purple Reign showcases a 5 piece band of fabulous musicians lead by front man, Jason Tenner, who not only looks remarkably like the legendary pop icon, the Prince clone has his voice, moves and attitude down pat and can play a very mean guitar. Tenner and his bandmates recreate the performances of Prince during his heyday from the mid 1980’s to 90’s with an array of hit songs that includes, of course, Purple Rain from Prince’s movie of the same name. Also featured in the show is a tribute to Morris Day and The Time (who appeared in Purple Rain) and they complement the show with the perfect blend of lookalike and soundalike funk.

In short, when it comes to tribute shows, I can’t rave enough about Purple Reign. Don’t take my word. Check it out for yourself.
Purple Reign, the Ultimate Prince Tribute show, performs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the Night Owl Showroom at Hooters Casino Hotel.

Frank Caliendo's impression of Chris Farley
To say he made a good impression in front of a packed theatre full of VIP guests and members of the media on opening night is an understatement. Caliendo brings to his new show at the Lance Burton theatre a vibrant mix of high-energy comedy and an array of fast-paced impressions enhanced by a live band of musicians. During this particular show, there were some surprise guests who joined Caliendo on stage. First to walk on was singer/Impressionist Terry Fator and his impersonating turtle, Winston, followed by prop comedian Carrot Top and Louie Anderson who showed up separately to deliver their brand of crowd pleasing humor, and spew out a humorous plug for each of their own shows on the strip.
