Mondays Dark with Mark Shunock 8th Charity Event at the Hard Rock

The June edition of “Mondays Dark with Mark Shunock" (member of the Las Vegas company of Rock of Ages), was held Monday evening, June 16, at Vinyl, inside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. All of the proceeds from this month's charity event (the eighth in the series) benefited THE RUDY RUETTIGER FOUNDATION, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the support and recognition of those who aspire to fulfill their dreams through character, courage, contribution and commitment.

The next edition of Monday's Dark with Mark Shunock will take place on Monday, July, 21, inside Vinyl at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino with proceeds benefitting Safe House. The theme for that evening's event will be Classic Vegas.

Frankie Moreno Celebrates 500th Show at The Stratosphere

Stratosphere headliner, the incredibly talented singer, songwriter, musician and showman, Frankie Moreno celebrated his 500th show on Thursday night, June 13 in front of a packed house of  fans and supporters including celebrities and VIPs.  As part of the milestone event, Mayor Carolyn Goodman and her hubby, former Mayor Oscar Goodman, came on stage to present Moreno with a special proclamation declaring “June 12, 2014 Frankie Moreno's 500th Performance Day”.

The performance marked the debut of a brand new show including new band members, new songs, and new choreography.  Moreno, who is known for his unique and enthusiastic style on stage, incorporated the changes to keep the show fresh for audience members and to tap into his own artistic pursuits.

Changes include new songs written by Moreno and his brothers Ricky and Tony Moreno, who joins Frankie on stage performing bass guitar,   The band also debuted four new members who, along with the entire band, have taken a more active role in the performance by participating in choreography. The dance and choreography aspects of the show are being directed by professional dancer and choreographer Lacey Schwimmer, who will also dance periodically during Moreno’s performances. Schwimmer, who performed for six seasons on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars program also danced during Moreno’s performance on the popular show in 2012.

The El Cortez Hotel & Casino, in conjunction with the Museum of Gaming History, unveiled a new mobile exhibit on Tuesday, June 17, honoring downtown gaming legend Jackie Gaughan.
The exhibit, titled “JACKIE GAUGHAN'S DOWNTOWN AS SEEN THROUGH GAMING MEMORABILIA”,  takes visitors on a historic journey through downtown Las Vegas. Gaughan was actively involved in a number of downtown properties including the El Cortez Hotel & Casino, Gold Spike, Club Bingo, and The Las Vegas Club among others. Onlookers can view more than 300 actual gaming artifacts used at properties Gaughan owned or had interest in, including casino chips, tokens, dice, keno tickets and more. Marking materials such as matches, ashtrays, fun books and menus were used in the exhibit, along with a 30-minute video montage that will run continuously.

This is the Museum of Gaming History’s first mobile exhibit. The display will be located on the casino floor inside Jackie’s Club Cortez, which was established by Gaughan.

To kick off their 2nd anniversary weekend, cast members from EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL, the hit show at V Theater inside Planet Hollywood, are volunteering their time and their blood on Friday, June 20, from 3 - 7 p.m. at MaximuM Comics, 520 South Marks Street, Suite 120 (at Sunset & Marks in the WalMart Center) in Henderson. The actors will be entertaining donors and members of the public, as well as giving blood, in an effort to encourage others to donate blood.

COMEDIAN MIKE MARINO'S upcoming show, scheduled for this Saturday, June 21 at The Orleans Hotel & Casino, has been cancelled. Refunds are available at the point of purchase and credit card purchases will be automatically refunded (posting within several business days). No plans for rescheduling the date have been announced.

JJ   Jerry's Nugget Casino will commemorate National Chocolate Éclair Day with an “ECLAIRS FOR A CAUSE” event on Sunday, June 22. 100% of the day’s sales of éclairs served at the Jerry’s Famous Coffee Shop will be donated to Susan G. Komen of Southern Nevada in its fight against breast cancer.

CABO WABO CANTINA inside Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood will host a MEMORIAL FUNDRAISER FOR FALLEN LAS VEGAS METROPOLITAN POLICE OFFICERS ALYN BECK, AND IGOR SOLDO AND CITIZEN JOSEPH WILCOX on Monday, June 23. The Strip-side cantina will be asking community members to show support for the brave men who lost their lives in a shooting in northeast Las Vegas on Sunday, June 8. The restaurant will donate Fifty percent of all proceeds from 2 – 10 p.m  to the Injured Police Officer Fund and The Joseph R. Wilcox Memorial Fund.  Additional donations will also be accepted.  KOMP 92.3 will be hosting a live remote from 4 to 6 p.m. to help boost community support.  Guests may also enter a happy hour raffle from 3 to 6 p.m. to win prizes including: two pairs of tickets and calendars to FANTASY and Thunder From Down Under; two pairs of tickets to Australian Bee Gees, Frank Marino’s Divas Show and Smokey Robinson Presents Human Nature: The Motown Show. The College of Southern Nevada Artspace Gallery presents a group exhibition featuring new works that make use of variety of printmaking techniques from the fine arts students of the College of Southern Nevada’s Introduction, Intermediate and Serigraphy Printmaking courses. The “PRESSED” exhibition will run June 27 – August 1 with an artist reception to take place on Thursday, July 10, from 6:00-8:00pm.  The CSN Artspace Gallery is FREE and open to the public. The sky above MANDALAY BAY BEACH will light up red, white and blue this INDEPENDANCE DAY (FRIDAY, JULY 4) with a dazzling display of fireworks and a musical performance by the local classic rock band Phoenix. Guests of all ages can dig their feet into the sand or let the waves wash over them while enjoying the extravaganza. Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets priced at $20 and family four-packs priced at $60, not including applicable service charges and taxes.

Further away, Primm Valley Casino Resorts, located  25 minutes south of Las Vegas on Interstate 15 at the Southern Nevada/California state line, will be celebrating INDEPENDANCE DAY with a FREE SPECTACULAR FIREWORKS SHOW starting at dusk. On Friday, July 11, 2014, Hard Rock Cafe is set to celebrate one year of its renamed intimate music venue HARD ROCK LIVE with a special benefit concert by The English Beat with Guest Performances by RUSTY MAPLES and AVALON LANDING, honoring the lives of the victims of the June 8 tragedy. All the money raised by the $10 ticket will go directly to help the families of officers Alyn Beck, Igor Soldo and Joseph Wilcox. The English Beat will be joined by local talent Rusty Maples and Avalon Landing. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

The stars of the hit MTV shows, “Girl Code” and “Guy Code,” will team up for a hysterical night of comedy on Saturday, July 12, inside Access Showroom at Aliante Casino + Hotel + Spa. DONNELL RAWLINGS, JEFF DYE, TANISHA LONG AND ESTHER KU will host two shows beginning at 8 and 10:30 p.m. Tickets start at $17.50 and luxury booths are also available. Guests must be at least 21 of age.

Rockabilly Hall of Fame inductee, 60's recording artist, TOMMY ROE, who topped the Billboard charts with #1 hits Sheila and Dizzy, will take the stage at the Suncoast Showroom on July 12 and 13. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available from $15.95 each, plus tax and convenience fees.

Commonwealth, located in the revitalized Fremont East District of Downtown Las Vegas, has introduced CHANDELIER SESSIONS, a weekly live music jam held every Wednesday, from 8 p.m. to close, hosted by multi-platinum musician, Ben Carey. Five talented R&B artists will perform their classic hits on one stage during the “THROWBACK SIZZLING JAM” at The Orleans Arena on July 18.  The lineup includes GUY, 112, DRU HILL,  112, SILK AND SHAI, along with host and funny man, SPEEDY. Proceeds from the concert will benefit Celerity Schools, a nonprofit dedicated to creating and operating high quality schools that serve underserved communities in Los Angeles.

Showtime is 8:00 p.m. Tickets range from $42.50 to $92.50.

LET'S HANG ON!,” regarded as one of the nation’s PREMIER TRIBUTES TO FRANKIE VALLIE AND THE FOUR SEASONS, will bring their distinct sound and high energy show to the Suncoast Showroom July 19 and 20. Let’s Hang On!” is a full-stage production complete with a live band and the familiar sounds of The Four Seasons biggest hits including “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Walk Like a Man,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You,” “Let’s Hang On,” “Rag Doll” and more.

Showtime each evening is 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $15.95, plus tax and convenience fees.

The highly anticipated Las Vegas property SLS LASVEGAS HOTEL & CASINO, located on the iconic grounds of the Sahara Hotel & Casino,  will open its doors to the public on Saturday, August 23. Construction on The Strip’s newest resort is wrapping ahead of schedule, allowing guests to experience the property earlier than its projected Labor Day Weekend debut. SLS Las Vegas broke ground in February 2013, employing thousands of local tradespeople. Upon opening, SLS will be the newest resort to open on the Las Vegas Strip in nearly five years and will bring more than 3,000 jobs to Las Vegas.

The Las Vegas Company of Jersey Boys attended an advance screening of the film adaptation of the hit musical directed by Clint Eastwood at AMC Town Square.  Also in the audience was Tommy DeVito, an original member of The Four Seasons.

Hip hop legend Snoop Dogg was spotted at Marquee Nightclub where  Cash Cash and Dash Berlin manned the DJ decks, marking the kick-off of EDC Week at Marquee.

Sunday night, June 15...

 Actress and ESPN record-breaking poker star, Tiffany Michelle, and American Idol Season Six runner-up Blake Lewis were spotted attending Absinthe Caesars Palace. Following the performance, the two met with the cast.

Saturday, June 14...

In the afternoon, both Michael Yo and Heather McDonald of E!'s "Chelsea Lately" were spotted at Marquee Dayclub. It was McDonald's birthday and she spent her day with friends and fellow "Chelsea Lately" castmates, all in town supporting Chelsea Handler's weekend of stand-up shows at The Cosmopolitan.

Six-time GRAMMY Award-winning mogul Andre Romelle Young, better known as Dr. Dre, was spotted enjoying a night out at Hakkasan Las Vegas Restaurant and Nightclub along with wife Nicole Threatt and friends.  After dinner, the legendary entrepreneur and his guests headed up to the third level of the nightlife mecca, the Ling Ling Club and they danced to the open-format beats of Justin Credible.  Later, the talented artist led his party to the main room where they joined international DJ sensation Steve Aoki in the DJ booth.

Arriving shortly after 1 a.m.  Kris Humphries and a group of friends were escorted stage-side at XS nightclub to celebrate the his best friend Josh Ketroser's birthday. Humphries jumped In the booth for a quick greeting and photo opp with headlining DJ Lil Jon before the group moved to a table on the dance floor. Ketroser is the agent and long-time friend of the Boston Celtics player. He was also the best man in Humphries wedding to Kim Kardashian.

TV host and comedian Michael Yo dined at TAO Asian Bistro.

Also at TAO Asian Bistro was Evelyn Lozada of VH1’s “Basketball Wives” and Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Carl Crawford. Joined by friends and family, the group was enjoying an early celebratory dinner for Lozada’s daughter, Shaniece, who turns 21 next week.

Chelsea Handler, in town for her back-to-back stand-up shows at The Cosmopolitan, was spotted at Marquee Nightclub. Handler was joined by her “Chelsea Lately” castmates and fellow comedians Chris Franjola, Heather McDonald, Jeff Wild, Josh Wolf, Diablo Cody and Ben Gleib.

Tuesday, June 10...

Ninety Tropic Beauty Model Search contestants arrived at the D Las Vegas in style in the property’s luxury limo buses to pose for photos and sign autographs for fans – including the D’s owner Derek Stevens, Pawn Stars’ Corey Harrison and the D’s headlining entertainer Frankie Scinta.  Strutting their stuff across 3rd Street Stage, the women posed for photos at the D’s LONGBAR and signed calendars for crowds of fans on the Fremont Street Experience.

Hailing from across the globe, the stunning models were in Vegas to compete for the crown of Miss Tropic Beauty – and a lucrative modeling contract.
