Stan Lee (the creator of  popular comic book characters Iron Man, Thor, Spider Man and The Incredible Hulk)  became the first guest to experience the brand new Marvel 4D Theater and new array of wax Marvel superhero figures.

“These figures are more realistic than I am! I walked up to Robert Downey Jr. (as Tony Stark) and expected him to talk to me. What a thrill! This new theater is spectacular,” raves Lee.

Next month, more figures are arriving including Spider-Man and The Incredible Hulk. As with all Madame Tussauds figures, the Super Heroes are “true to life” to the dimensions of the actors and costumes featured in the Marvel blockbuster films.

The 70 seat Marvel 4D Theater, which is the  grand finale and the capstone on Madame Tussauds’ transformation, features a brand new 10 minute movie where the superheroes save Las Vegas from destruction.  Guests will enjoy a multi sensory experience, in which they are able to see, hear and feel the Super Heroes save the day by way of thrill-enhancing sensory special effects—from water sprays and smoke clouds to tremors beneath the feet and more, in conjunction with the action on screen.

The goal of the renovation was to create a brand new guest experience from start to finish including an array of new wax celebrity likenesses such as big names stars such as Sandra Bullock, Sofia Vergara (star of TV's Modern Family), Jamie Foxx and Gwen Stefani.

Opportunity Village Hosted its Annual Camelot Gala at Magical Forest Honoring Barrick Gold Corporation

Opportunity Village held its annual Camelot Gala at the Magical Forest on Thursday, November 7 honoring one of Nevada’s most respected corporations, Barrick Gold. Emceed by Fox 5 news anchor Monica Jackson, Camelot featured a performance from singer-impersonator Veroníc, a special appearance and message from Governor Brian Sandoval, and a surprise donation from Barrick Gold, who announced a generous gift of $1 million to the organization.

Kelvin Dushnisky, Barrick’s Senior Executive Vice President, presented the gift to a packed room of supporters, including Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick, former Speaker Barbara Buckley and Clark County Commissioner Lawrence Weekly.

“Since our founding in 1983, Barrick has focused on the creation of educational and employment opportunities in the communities where we operate,” Mr. Dushnisky said. “It is a commitment our Founder and Chairman Peter Munk holds close. That commitment to education and employment extends to helping those in life who were dealt a little extra challenge, like the thousands of OVIPs who are succeeding here at Opportunity Village.”

The gift to Opportunity Village will go directly to fund the construction of a residential housing facility for adults with intellectual disabilities in Las Vegas. For the first time in history, many individuals with developmental challenges are outliving their parents.

Opportunity Village is building a world-class residential village for people with intellectual disabilities at its Engelstad Campus in Las Vegas. The “Barrick House” will be part of that village, providing safe, quality housing for up to six adults.

“Barrick Gold has proven to be an amazing and generous friend of Opportunity Village,” said Linda Smith, Chief Development Officer and Associate Executive Director of Opportunity Village. “Their commitment to Nevada has truly set the gold standard when it comes to helping our OVIPs live better lives.” Mr. Dushnisky explained that as Barrick’s business in Nevada has grown, so too has the reach of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility programs.

Barrick is Nevada’s largest mining company and leads the world in gold production.

“Ten years ago, when a Nevada mining company spoke of community relations, that meant the remote rural towns of Elko, Carlin or Winnemucca,” Dushnisky said. “Today our definition of community means all of Nevada – rural, northern and southern. In recent years, as the Great Recession deepened, we saw it necessary to ‘double-down’ on our commitment to the state, particularly here in Las Vegas. We established new strategic partnerships where Barrick executives could provide ‘time and talent’ to help organizations like Three Square, Communities in Schools and Opportunity Village. At Barrick, we understand that our business succeeds in rural Nevada only if it is a full partner with urban Nevada.”

Additional recent and upcoming “happenings” in and around Las Vegas include:
