VEGAS HAPPENINGS
by Judy Thorburn
First, I am saddened to report that legendary entertainer Kenny Kerr peacefully passed away Sunday morning, April 28 at the age of 60. Kenny was known as The World’s Foremost Master of Female Impersonation. His Las Vegas show Boylesque, which he opened in 1977, was the longest running show of its kind and remains a show business institution.
Kenny Kerr
In 1999, Kenny Kerr became the first female impersonator ever to be inducted into the Tropicana Hotel’s Las Vegas Hall of Fame. In the fall of 2001, he was chosen from among many Impersonators from around the world as the World’s Top Female Impressionist by the television show Tacha A Spilia in Milan, Italy. In 2002, Kenny finished a 5 year run at the Plaza Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, which marked his 25 years as a Las Vegas Headliner.
In 2006, Kenny moved to Palm Springs to star in the CopyKatz Revue. However, in 2012 he moved back to Las Vegas to be closer to family and friends.
Kenny’s ‘trailblazing’ efforts as the first female impersonator in Las Vegas paved the way for similar current shows not only in Sin City, but around the world. Kenny was a true first-class star and his memory will live-on in the hearts that he touched.
His family will announce details for a memorial service at a later date.
X Burlesque Celebrates 11 year Anniversary
X Burlesque, the most provocative show on the Las Vegas Strip, celebrated 11 years in Sin City on Wednesday, April 24 at Flamingo Las Vegas. Created and produced by husband and wife team, Matt and Angela Stabile, the topless revue showcases a variety of performances by six gorgeous dancers set to music by today's hottest artists.
Several new dance numbers have also been added to the show in honor of the 11th anniversary, including a new hip hop number to Beyonce’s “Run the World,” Rhianna’s “Birthday Cake” and Keri Hilson’s “The Way You Love Me,” as well as a new number featuring the X Burlesque version of today's showgirl titled “A Girls Best Friend” to Shirley Bassey’s “Diamonds are Forever” and Rhianna’s “Diamonds.”

For 75 minutes, the burlesque beauties reveal their assets while teasing and playfully interacting with the audience. X Burlesque combines high-energy performance with the use of props such as bathtubs, guitars, and feather boas to fulfill the audience's every fantasy.
During this year’s anniversary celebration, a one-of-a-kind painting of the X girls by artist Terry Ritter was auctioned off with the money donated to Shellee Renee, a former Las Vegas showgirl who is recovering from breast cancer. A copy of the painting will be permanently on display in the “X Burlesque” showroom.
X Burlesque is performed nightly at 10 p.m. inside the X Showroom at Flamingo Las Vegas. Tickets range in price from $44.95 to $55.95 plus tax and applicable fees.
Local Celebs Roast Chris Phillips aka Zowie Bowie at Stratosphere Showroom
The Stratosphere showroom was on fire Tuesday night, April 23. Not literally, thankfully, but figuratively speaking, the room was smokin' hot with roasters delivering burning jabs at Chris Phillips of Zowie Bowie in what producer Andy Walmsley hopes was the first in a series of Showbiz Roasts.

Joining Chris on stage as he sat on a pink throne, or rather the hot seat, were roasters Flamingo headliner George Wallace, impressionist Gordie Brown, journalist Robin Leach, Dennis Bono, Frankie Scinta, insult comic Vinnie Favorito, comedy magician Murray Sawchuck, singers Lorena Peril of Fantasy, Clint Holmes, Kelly Clinton-Holmes, the vocal group BBR, Justin Spencer of Recycled Percussion, Brian Thomas (“Lowercase g” at Kiss by Monster Mini Golf), entertainment reporter John Katsilometes and TV reporter Dayna Roselli.

It was a hilarious night filled with digs at Phillips, the tan and blonde spike haired lounge singer who has developed a huge fan base in the 8 years he has performed in Las Vegas. Nothing was off limits as each and every celeb took their turn teasing and poking fun at Chris and, for that matter, their fellow roasters. Crude, sarcastic, insulting are just a few of the words to describe what was spewed.
Off course, all the harsh words were meant in jest, and not to be taken seriously. Chris was a good sport taking it all in stride and laughing out loud as his looks, talent, sexuality, and interest in younger women were targeted in rapid order, from the eclectic panel that are supposed to be his friends.
Roastmaster for the evening's affair was comedy magician Mike Hammer, who kicked off the roast by saying, “What is this...a wax museum? I've seen younger faces on cash. He addressed Robin Leach with “Now you are on the panel with the poor and unknown.” Hammer then went on to describe the man of the hour, Chris, as looking like the illegitimate son of Rod Stewart and David Bowie.

One of the highlights of the night was when Kelly Clinton-Holmes presented a hilarious video clip of her in drag, impersonating Phillips, complete with fake tan and wig, on her Vegas Video Network talk show “Talktails,” that showed her boozing it up and laughing.
Another was Clint Holmes's oh so funny parody of Chicago’s “Does Anybody Really Know What Time it Is? with lyrics changed to “Does anybody really know who Zowie Bowie is? Does anybody really care?” that brought down the house. The trio of lovely singers, BBR sang “Sweet Talking, Bleach Blonde, Tanningman” to the melody of Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy. Two actresses from “Nunsense”, introduced as women who Chris had NOT slept with, showed up and danced around him. And, it was announced that because Vince Neil couldn't make it, he sent a quartet of shirtless hunks from Thunder From Down Under, who proceeded to give Chris a lap dance, as his hot girlfriend, violinist Lydia Ansel, seated alongside the band, looked on.

After taking off his pants to reveal he was wearing a diaper, Justin Spencer told Chris, “The only thing more fake than your tan is your 25,000 twitter followers”.
Robin Leach, who way overstayed his 3 minutes and was reminded several times by a heckler in the audience, said, “We can say out loud what we've been thinking, but not saying all these years. (Chris is) the original rags to riches, back to rags story.”
Hammer called George Wallace a “generous man” and then added, “A homeless family lives under his beret.” When it was his turn to throw some verbal punches at Chris, Wallace first remarked, “I am the only black man here. That's bullsh-t.” He then looked at Chris and said, “Who the hell are you. I don't know you. And who is this half ass band?
Last on the dais, Insult comic and professional roaster Vinnie Favorito, disregarded any boundaries whatsoever, and did go way over the line a couple of times with below the belt jabs at Lorena Peril, Clint Holmes and Gordie Brown.Vinnie responded to everyone's shocked reactions by saying: "Buckle up…its a roast, folks!" If, you've seen the no holds barred, always uncensored Vinnie in action, than nothing should come as a surprise.
In fact , anyone who agrees to be roasted knows what's in store for them. Word is that Walmsley wants to recruit female impersonator Frank Marino, star of Divas of Las Vegas, for the hot seat at his next Showbiz Roast. If so, I can hardly wait.
