The night of October 26 presented an exiting evening for those who attended the
Red Carpet event Special Screening and Soundtrack Release party for the horror
film Saw III, which took place at the Palms Resort and Casino. As fans and
photographers waited for the red carpet to begin you could feel the charged
electricity of the crowd who were poised with their cameras to ensure that they
were able to get good pictures of the celebrities. Brenden Theatre owner Johnny
Brenden was present, but the host for the evening was Robin Leach. At
approximately 7:45 pm the guests begin to arrive.

Among those who walked the carpet and stopped for the cameras
was Marelli Taylor from the popular television show“Las Vegas”. SAW III star
arrivals included Shawnee Smith (SAW & SAW II) who plays the lead character
(Amanda), Angus MacFayden, (Jeff), J. LaRose (Troy) & Lyriq Brent, who reprises
his character, Rigg, from “SAW II” Other attendees were Wayne Static Nick Oshiro,
Koichi Fukada, and Tony Campos of the musical group “Static-X” who performed a
couple of their songs later at the Soundtrack Release Party inside the Palms’
night club Rain. Once the carpet event came to an end we headed inside the movie
theatre to see Saw III and get the bejeebies scared out of us.
Although I am not a big fan of horror movies, SAW III turned out better than SAW
and SAW II. In this third trilogy of horror, SAW III; written by James Wan and
Leigh Whannell and directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, Jigsaw (played by Tobin
Bell), the puppet-master behind the horrible, sadistic games played on
unsuspecting people, has vanished. The puzzled police detectives are in a frenzy
trying to find him and are unaware that jigsaw aka; John Kramer (Tobin Bell) had
his deranged and demented apprentice Amanda (Shawnee Smith) kidnap Doctor Lynn
Denlon (Bahar Soomekh). One night, after finishing a shift at the hospital, he
takes her to an abandoned warehouse where she meets Jigsaw, who’s now bedridden
and on the verge of death.
Lynn is told that she must keep this psychotic man alive for as long as it takes
Jeff (Angus Macfayden), another of jigsaw’s victims, to complete a game of his
own. Lynn and Jeff struggle to make it through each of their vicious tests,
unaware that Jigsaw and Amanda have a much bigger plan for both of them.
The special effects in this movie are awesome, and even though J. LaRose (Troy)
meets an untimely demise in the very beginning of the movie, just for a moment,
we ladies get to be distracted by seeing his sculpted six pack abs (nice eye
candy). Saw III definitely is not a movie for the weak hearted.

After the screening, we headed over to Rain Nightclub to
check out the action at the Release Party where you could hear the thumping
grooves of the music playing. The employees of Rain were all dressed in costumes
for the event; ladies in nurse uniforms, the men in brown pants, white
tee-shirts, and faces that looked like they were splattered in blood (fake, for
sure). Spattered about the seating and bar area was dental floss with the SAW
III logo on it. There were even complimentary pieces of fake body parts like
noses, ears, tongues etc...that you could take home as a momento! What a lovely
keepsake gift…eeeeew!
People with V.I.P. passes were able to go upstairs and mingle with the cast
members from the movie. The bands Hydrovibe, Bodipartz & Static-X, (all who
contributed music to the SAW III soundtrack) were scheduled to play live music
that evening. Exclusive tracks like “No Submission,” and Drowning Pool “No More”
by Static-X are some of the stand out songs. Some of the other hard rock bands
whose music is heard in the soundtrack included Slayer, Lamb of God, Avenge
Sevenfold, All that Remains, Ministry & many others. The highlight of the night
was when Shawnee Smith sang a couple of songs with the group Hydrovibe and
rocked the house.
All in all, being at the scene for this SAW III event was something I won’t soon
forget. |
