Judy Thorburn and Debbie Hall
What
a week we both had, work, work work! First, we would like to thank the
staff of Don Vito, the elegant Italian restaurant located inside the
South Coast, for the most wonderful dinner on Saturday night. The South
Coast, the newest addition to the Coast Casino properties, can boast of
great food, wonderful service and friendly ambiance. We are looking
forward to dining at the other restaurants offered by the South Coast.
We were the life of the party on Tuesday. Delisco, winner of Wayne
Newton’s TV reality show, The Entertainer, was performing his last week
at the Las Vegas Hilton and he is fantastic. If you didn’t see him on
that limited series or attend his high voltage show at the Hilton’s
“Shimmer” showroom, be informed that Delisco is very much a consummate
“entertainer”, reminiscent of other show biz powerhouses such Sammy
Davis Jr, Michael Jackson, and Clint Holmes, rolled up into one dynamite
performer with a career that should skyrocket.

It was singer Lady J’s birthday (and NO, we are not telling her age) and
as part of her celebration, we had to catch his show. There were eight
of us and before you knew it, Debbie was doing a conga line around the
theater. Then Lady J and Debbie were dancing with Delisco and, well,
tearing down the house. Delisco is based here in Las Vegas and we are
anxiously awaiting his next engagement. Speaking of dynamic, you also
need to catch Lady J in a performance as well. All of this talent we get
to surround ourselves with on a daily basis. How lucky are we?
On Friday, we were part of the crowd at Stack, created by The Light
Group as its first Mirage restaurant venture, an American Grill concept.
Located in the casino’s restaurant row, the décor is very masculine with
wood beams and walls in a caramel color with an “open wall,” into the
casino. The space is rectangular with privacy offered deep into the room
with a bar located on the side of the restaurant. It is designed so that
guests will experience both the scene and cuisine, savoring a new
American Bistro menu in a cutting-edge environment that feels at once
intimate and expansive. Stack is open for evening dining with an average
check of $50. Nibbles were offered including mini steak sandwiches, Ahi
tuna tacos, jumbo shrimp, bacon potato tots and bite size donut snacks.

Speaking of the Mirage, after leaving Stack we noticed there was quite a
line waiting to get into Jet, as we passed by Mirage’s newest addition
to the nightclub scene. At the opening a couple of weeks ago we got to
check out the venue that includes three rooms, blaring music and outdoor
deck for the summer nights. Low lighting is an understatement. It is
dark! Was it designed this way to pick someone up?
We covered the Miss America press conference (see separate article) in
front the Aladdin, which is due to become Planet Hollywood later this
year. It was a windy Saturday afternoon, but the 52 poised and lovely
contestants kept a smile on their face, all displaying good humor, which
is a sign of a good beauty queen. Do these girls EVER eat?? They are all
so skinny! How do they do it? We need food NOW.

Next week, we report partying at Tao, Lush Puppy and enjoying the
premiere of Las Vegas' own Wayne Allyn Root new television show. He is
the Creator, Co-Executive Producer, and Co-Star of the new,
high-profile, primetime Spike TV series “King of Vegas." It debuted on
Tuesday January 17 and then repeats seven times a week on Spike. Root
hosted a PREMIERE PARTY at his amazing Henderson estate inside Anthem
Country Club. "King of Vegas" is a 10 week national gambling competition
to crown the greatest gambler in the world! The winner will be awarded
$1,000,000 by Spike TV- winner-take-all! The competitors include the
greatest amateur gamblers in America (discovered during a nationwide
audition tour) and some of the greatest professional gamblers like Mike
"The Mouth" Matusow, David Williams and "The Poker Babe" Evelyn Eng (all
Las Vegas residents).
Coming up - the opening of Corsa at Wynn and the Chick Writers’ Get
Together (by special invitation only).
