PLAYBOY COMEDY CLUB AT THE PALMS RESORT AND CASINO
By Rob Goald
With two shows at both 8 and 10:30 PM, The Playboy Comedy Club at the
Palms Resort and Casino is a great place to chill and have a few laughs
with your friends in Las Vegas. With two hosts, Paul Hughes of MTV, and
Cort McCown of the Playboy Morning Show setting an upbeat mood and
showcasing two solid stand-up acts in Adam Hunter and Jon Reep, the
modest cover charge is a bargain.
The first of the two headliners on Saturday evening December 9 was Adam
Hunter of Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend”. Adam is raunchy and sharp as
a tack as he talks about growing up in a dysfunctional family (“my
father was a sperm donor who wanted to get enough money to buy an
x-box”) His life observations on women, religion, and pop culture are
infused with the drug culture milieu (“don’t smoke pot it’ll ruin your
high”) His witty repartee with the crowd is facile and impressive. His
is an act is worth checking out.
Jon Reep also of Comedy Central bills himself as the Dodge “That Thing
Got a Hemi Guy” and he is hilarious. His style of humor is much more
physical than Adam Hunter and it makes for great mix to have them both
in the same show. The theme that runs through his act is how we all live
in “Small Town Nation, the world’s biggest small town”. Having roots in
Hickory, NC and now living in “Lost Angeles”, Jon’s observations are red
for “redneck”, white for “white trash” and blue for “blue collar”. He is
a self described “Hollyweird” redneck and his reflections on common
euphemisms (“Time heals all wounds unless, of course, you get smashed in
the head with a clock”) will crack you up.
The Playboy Comedy Club gets a rabbit ear’s up!
