Garland, Sinatra & Cash
Imagine these stars all together in a room chatting away. Well as they
say, we had “The Next Best Thing” at our radio show on Monday. Denise
Rose, CJ Decker and Jimmie Ray are tribute stars and they do a
spectacular job as impersonators. All anyone has to do is close their
eyes and they will believe they are hearing the real thing. Let me start
with Denise Rose who actually has a striking resemblance to Judy
Garland.

She sang "A Cappella" for us in the studio and I thought I was hearing
Judy Garland. I saw her perform at Take 1 Nightclub several months ago
and I stopped in my tracks when I heard her. Her songs brought back a
lot of memories. She lit up the room with her warm and friendly
personality. Denise is the same height and has the same unique voice as
Judy.

Denise has a slim figure and beautiful eyes. She told us that Judy was
her one and only idol and loves paying tribute to her. She started
performing as Judy in January of this year and she is so perfect you
would think that she has been doing this her entire life. She also sings
as Brenda Lee.
Seated next to her in the radio studio was CJ Decker, her partner. I
never did find out what the initials stood for. CJ said if I wrote him a
check he would tell me I said I would write him a check with my initials
and then he wouldn’t be able to cash it. This was all in fun. And fun is
what we had that day with our great guests.
Denise and CJ are a couple in real life, and I was trying to imagine
them singing love songs to each other. CJ likes to call himself “Frank
The Voice” and he croons just like Frank. He looked very dapper in his
suit. He told us how they met at a function. He was immediately
attracted to Denise. She said the feelings were mutual. They have been
singing together for 1 year as tribute artists.
CJ started singing in 1999 and people said he sounded just like Frank
Sinatra. They started asking him to sing at their parties and that is
how it started with Frank, the Voice. They now both perform at Take 1
Nightclub on Sunday nights. They described it as a classic night club
atmosphere with a stage and a great sound system. For dinner and show
reservations call 702 433-take. This is part of the 3 block extension of
Fremont Street East.
C.J. likes to be called Frank off stage by his fans. I must say he is
very charming both on and off the stage and he has mastered the voice.
He has performed in many hotels on the strip with his tribute to “The
Rat Pack”. He refers to them as “The Summit” That's the first time I
ever heard that one.

If you want a night of nostalgia go to see Denise Rose and C.J. Decker
at Take 1 nightclub. You will go home in love once again with Judy and
Frank.

Jimmie
Ray as Johnny Cash
Cyndi Cantrell as June Carter
Jimmie Ray was a railroad worker who was born in Arkansas and grew up in
North Carolina. He lived in a 2 room house with no running water and no
electricity. Jimmie started singing gospel at a young age of 5 years
old. He has performed his entire life and loved to sing gospel. He can
remember that he always looked up to Johnny Cash and then people started
telling him that he sounded just like Johnny. Jimmie had a deep bass
voice so he was a natural to sing like him. In December 2006 he started
paying tribute to Johnny and the rest is history. The audience loved him
and Cyndi, who sang June Carter songs.
www.johnnycashvegastribute.com They are held in high esteem by
their loyal fans and they give back to them by pleasing them with
touching songs like “Folsom Prison Blues” or my favorite “Walk The
Line”.

Both Jimmie and Cyndi sang lots of gospel songs which got them where
they are today. The place that appreciated them the most were the people
in the retirement homes. They loved the music and it was one of their
finest moments to hear the music of Johnny and June. Actually folks of
all ages love them.
They have been married for 13 years and have played together at
festivals, fairs and the Oregon State Prison. They play to sold out
crowds and are loved by so many fans. Jimmie Ray & Ring of Fire’s
Tribute show includes all the best music and songs of the last 50 years
of “The Man In Black”. Everyone was moved by the tenderness and the
gentleness of Johnny and I found him to be such a sensitive and loving
man. He was soft spoken but one could feel the power of his voice and
see the kindness and love in the look that came from his eyes. His songs
were for the common man and we felt them.
I found Jimmie to be just as kind and gentle, playful and a great sense
of humor. He sang a cappella with such power in the studio. I can’t wait
to hear him sing with his 5 piece band on a stage. He will be performing
on November 10th at the Amphitheater downtown and November 17 at E
Strings in Henderson at 7:00pm & 9:00pm.

What a great show we had with Garland Sinatra and Cash. I have to
commend these entertainers for the incredible show they put on. I think
they are “The Best Thing”.
The
Innocence and Wisdom of Youth—Michelle Nicole
People
are so often blinded by the effect their choices ultimately have on the
world around them. Everything we do or say will have a ripple effect and
change, even if slightly, the world around them and eventually come back
to them in an equal but opposite way. Giving a kind hand to someone who
needs it, smiling at a stranger, doing something nice for people gives
the most positive of ripples and consequently comes back in many
positive forms. The same can be said for negative choices. Most of us
refuse to acknowledge the effect on others and ourselves our bad choices
have. This so often is mistaken for bad luck and a general feeling of
uneasiness. Frustration and anxiety comes from not listening to one's
soul, which would never lead us wrong. It feels good to make good
choices and uneasiness is rarely felt when you do. So keep a kind heart
and smile at those you come across, help someone who needs it and you'll
find that doing so is the easiest way to keep yourself and those around
you happy.
