Emily
Lauren
Emily Lauren and Onyx Theater presents Sugar Puppy and the Lovely
Dumplings. Their performance reminds me a New York Off Broadway Show. It
is comedy burlesque and Emily is a one woman show. I would describe her
as very talented, sweet, charming and sexy.

The show is 50 minutes and not long enough. I wanted to see more. Emily
is intriguing with her many characters, costumes and masks. The show
begins with Emily coming on stage wearing a dog mask, playing a ukulele
and lip synching “Over the Rainbow”.

She quickly changes into new costumes behind a screen and re-enters
again as another glamorous lady.

I didn’t quite follow the story, but I still found it entertaining. This
comedy burlesque gives vaudeville a modern twist. Each character is
different, unique and sexy.

The Onyx Theatre is located at 953 E. Sahara Bldg 16 in the Commercial
Center. You must go and see any and all of the shows.

Cannibal
- The Musical

Once again I enjoyed an evening out at The Onyx Theater. This time I saw
“Cannibal” a comedy horror musical. I loved it and would like to see
again.
http://www.cannibalthemusical.net/realstory.shtml
Cannibal, The Musical is a true story of Alferd Packer, who was the only
American ever convicted of cannibalism. He was hired as a guide to lead
5 men from Utah to the lucrative gold mines in Breckenridge Colorado to
find gold.

He said he knew the way, but got lost many times. Now this is where the
fun begins for the audience as he leads the men through the aisles of
the theater and then climbs in front of us. The theater is small, and
there are times you can actually touch the actors. We are warned before
the show starts, that the first 2 rows will get splattered with blood
(not real, of course) and that was true. I was seated in the second row.
Along the way they encounter the trappers

a puss squirting eye Cyclops

and the stage becomes alive with their singing and dancing. Eventually,
Alferd Packer (played by Shawn Hackler), loses his beloved horse Liane.
The next part of the story is trying to find her which leads to a
camping scene that is very funny.

After a few weeks they run out of food but then find some Japanese
Indians who take them to their camp to offer them food and give them
shelter. Because of the winter storms, they are warned not to leave
until spring but are still anxious to go. Once again they run out of
food and when one of the men dies…well, you know what happens.

Shawn finally makes it to Colorado and when the bodies are discovered he
is arrested and put into jail.

Polly Pry (played by Cynthia Vodovoz) takes pity on Shawn and is
instrumental in eventually getting him freed.

Cannibal The Musical, written by Trey Parker, and brilliantly directed
by John Beane, is a unique twist to horror, with witty dialogue and
humorous songs. The cast is talented with each bringing something unique
to the show. The entire audience loved it. I look forward to upcoming
shows that are just as entertaining. Go to
