Celebrity
Impersonators Convention is a Smash Hit
By Nikki Artale with Judy Thorburn
Once again the red carpet was filled with the celebrity look-alikes from
around the world at the annual Celebrity Impersonators Convention which
took place at the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas beginning Sunday May 25.
The three day convention included live entertainment filled showcases
where more than one hundred and twenty of the best celebrity look-alikes
and tribute artists, one more outstanding than the next performed in
front of a packed theater. With looks and mannerisms that were dead on,
if you didn’t know you were at a look-alike event you would think you
were seeing the real stars.

Emcees for the daily showcases included Dawnn Behrens as Marilyn Monroe
and David Born as Robin Williams

Jack English as Jack Nicholson, William Parks as Drew Carey, Jose D
Gonzales as Robert DeNiro and John Allen as Sean Connery.
Many of the tribute artists took the audience on a nostalgic journey
invoking entertainers from yesteryear that are no longer with us. Taking
us back to the 40’s were The Swing Dolls as the singing and swinging
Andrew Sisters, complete with wigs and wartime military uniforms of that
era.
Other outstanding live musical tributes included Good Vibrations, a
Beach Boys Tribute Band, Rock Valentine in an Alice Cooper Tribute Band,
The Lonely Street Band as an Elvis Presley Tribute Band and Mark Maynard
with the Vegas Jersey Boys Tribute Band.
Mick Believe, fronting his Rolling Stones Tribute as Mick Jagger, rocked
the house with endless energy.

Samira, in a stunning glitter red dress, invoked the moves and fiery
performance of Tina Turner.

Marilyn Monroe impersonator Camile Terry-Davis, heated up the room
singing to a Steven Spielberg double as she sat on his lap.

For country music fans, there was Toby Keith deadringer Jeff Gaskill

and Rod Marshall as Willie Nelson among other country superstar
impersonators.

And, Elvis impersonator Richard Butler brought us back to the 50’s and
reminded us why he was The King.

But, Butler wasn’t the only “faux” Elvis in the house. Earlier in the
day, several Elvi met outside the Imperial Palace where they drew the
attention of crowds of tourists passing by, many of whom stopped to get
an autograph and take a photo alongside the “King”. Later on
approximately 50 Elvi gathered together on stage to perform some of his
most popular songs.

It is obvious all the tribute artists are hard working and have a lot of
fun with their celebrity look-alike status. While not all have what it
takes to be a success, many are able to make a living performing at
corporate shows and private parties. The best can be seen in tribute
shows like the world famous “Legends” at the Imperial Palace. With
representatives of talent agencies in attendance, and workshops/seminars
for newcomers in the industry to learn the tricks of the trade, the
Celebrity Impersonator Convention, produced by sisters Janna and Alanna
Joos, is a great resource for serious performers wanting to break into
the industry .
