Hats at Harrah’s

If you and your friends are 50 plus and want a feel good and inspirational evening out, then you must run to see the show “Hats” at Harrah’s. It is a story about MaryAnne who is reluctantly facing the big 5-0. As her friends and mother are planning a surprise birthday party, MaryAnne is expressing sorrow at turning 50.

MaryAnne reads a birthday card which says “50 is the youth of old age”, but that doesn’t make her feel any better as she tries to embrace this event. 50 is the new 40.

The 75 minute musical has a cast of seven powerful and dynamic women. Finally a show with mature women that are talented and full of energy. Their costumes are dazzling, especially the white fur trimmed, sequined outfit worn by Duchess DeLovely played by Maxine Weldon.

Maxine belts out a song, “I may have snow on my roof top, but if you come inside my kitchen, my ovens still hot”.

MaryAnne meets her fairy godsister who represents the inner child in all of us. She shows her how other women have become empowered and enthusiastic about their lives and encourages her to embrace this event.

All the songs and scores are originals written by Golden Globe, Grammy and Tony Award winning artists. A live band with musicians who have performed with the greatest headliners of all time is set off to the side of the stage. The music and lyrics are fantastic and the show room is filled with laughter and applause.

Hats is patterned after the “Red Hat Society” which is a world wide organization with over 30,000 chapters in all 50 states. www.redhatsociety.com  They are immediately identified by their red hats and red and purple outfits.

Hats is a feel good show and a great evening of entertainment. The lyrics are such that we all identify with the humor and silliness that fill our daily lives. We are all winners.

 The Innocence and Wisdom of Youth

I believe that in another time and place, maybe not so far from here and now, I will find the answer to everything I’ve always wondered about. I will have complete clarity on all the whys and hows and those why-nots. Things may work out differently than I’ve ever imagined but I trust that it is all right. I may never meet the people that provide some of the most resolution in my life but I will see them in that time and place. I may never in this life realize the reasons behind my actions, thoughts and feelings but one day it will make sense. Right now I may feel incomplete and confused but in that time and place I’ll know.
