Summit Ski
Resort at Brian Head Media Event
The evening of November 27 offered a powdery surprise for your humble
correspondent and former Chicago resident. I encountered piles of real
snow, complete with snowmobile and skier, ready to take on any slope.
This was the Summit Design Showcase, a replica residence (both inside
and outside) of Summit at Brian Head, Utah.
The startling replication took place in the heart of the exclusive
Pinto/Palomino neighborhood in Las Vegas. With a palm tree or two in the
background, the effect was surreal but somewhat magical, if a little
frosty. Snow was also falling from several strategically placed
dispensers on rooftops and poles. Workers pushed wheelbarrows of the
white stuff through the crowds to embellish impressive manmade
snowdrifts and peaks. It was already a cold night, and guests were
thankful for the many tall heat lamps that dotted the yard, a small
reminder of former, hotter temperatures, now so out of place in this
little temporary ski town.

After living in Las Vegas for nearly two years, the sensation of walking
on snow was foreign yet familiar, reminding me that the fastest
sensation I’ve ever had was riding a snowmobile in Canada. For skiers
and snowboarders it’s something to get excited about. To them, snow
means speed; it means sleigh rides and snowball fights, entire forts
made out of cold, white frozen water; breath you can see and winter
magic that can only be had on mountains covered with the stuff.
Outside in the snow, guests kept warm with hot buttered rum. Inside,
they gathered around the three-sided fireplace, toured the kitchen, bed
and bath facilities, all warmly decorated and inviting. The indoor
layout featured open and easy traffic flow, allowing for good
conversation over drinks and a welcome warmth. The large bathrooms were
almost bigger than the rather small but elegantly appointed bedrooms.
Mountain, Contemporary, and Traditional designs were all incorporated
into this model but each motif is available among the many floor plans
at Summit.

Entrepreneur and developer Michael Jabara’s vision of an all season
luxury mountain retreat is now a reality. Offering Utah’s driest snow,
with a 1707 vertical rise on two mountain peaks, and with an average
snowfall of 400+ inches per year, Summit at Brian Head is a signature
master planned resort. It’s about “nature, adventure, tranquility and
community.” There are several housing options here including
condominiums, town homes, and penthouses, with condominiums being the
most affordable, starting at $300,000. There are 454 residences
currently available.
The abundant amenities include multiple balconies, dual master bedrooms
and bathrooms, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, roman
whirlpool tubs, never ending hot water systems, washer & dryer and
three-sided fireplaces in each unit. Even if snow is not your cup of
tea, there’s cozy comfort in the interior elegance while you await the
return of your cold weather adventurers.
A central plaza boasts spas, fire pits, basketball, and bocce courts.
Communal areas only add to the sense of community and add even more
activities to an already full roster of daily options.
Outside facilities accommodate both winter and summer activities. In
addition to skiing (540 acres over two mountain peaks) there’s also
snowboarding and snowmobiling in the winter along with ice fishing and
sleigh rides. Terrain breakdown is 35% beginner, 45% intermediate, 20%
expert. When the weather warms up, there’s horseback riding, camping,
boating, fishing, mountain biking, hiking and ATV travel along the
hundreds of miles of trail, making Brian’s head an all-season
destination dedicated to recreation and relaxation for the discerning
visitor.
Summit at Brian Head boasts 42 acres of pine and aspen groves, and wild
grasses. Close by are national parks like Cedar Breaks (3 mi), and Great
Basin (5 mi). A little farther but still within day trip range are Bryce
Canyon and Lake Powell, to name just a few of the natural wonders the
region offers.
Conveniently located just off of hwy 143 a few miles east of Interstate
15, it’s a three hour drive from Las Vegas; a small amount of time to
change climates, have an outdoor adventure and an inner renewal.
Rediscover stargazing in a place that puts you closer to them than ever
before.
