Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl For Kids’ Sake Benefit Features Mamma Mia!
Cast
Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Southern Nevada held their 16th
annual Bowl For Kids’ Sake on August 12 at Texas Station Bowling Center.
The event raises money for underprivileged children living in Southern
Nevada. This year, members of the cast of Mamma Mia! graciously donated
their time and money to the worthy cause.

A raffle was also held featuring Spamalot tickets, gift certificates to
Paris restaurant Mon Ami Gabi and DKNY, a Starbucks gift set, jewelry
boxes, and various BBBS merchandise. Tickets were sold for $1 each or
ten for 5$. Sales were extremely brisk, with many people seemingly
buying by the yard, long lines of unbroken red tickets too long to carry
without touching the floor with them.
Mamma Mia!
From lanes 56-60, participants bowled with kids in mind. Lane 57 hosted
the Mamma Mia! team. The internationally renowned musical (currently in
seven permanent productions and two tours) has the tag line: A mother. A
daughter. 3 possible dads. Those three possible dads were in attendance
in blue Mamma Mia! T-shirts and good-natured dispositions. Mamma Mia!
cast members Rob Sutton, (architect Sam Carmichael) Ron McClary,
(Australian Bill Austin) and T. Scott Cunningham (British Banker Harry
Bright) joined BBBS in forming bowling teams of five, ($500 donation per
team). All were above-average bowlers, with an average of 6.3 pins per
person each time they worked the lane, actually garnering the award for
highest team score for the first game.
Mamma Mia! is the longest running and most successful Broadway musical
to hit the Las Vegas Strip. Seen by more than 30 million people
worldwide, Mamma Mia! has more productions playing around the world than
any other current Broadway musical. It has grossed more than $2 Billion
in worldwide box office sales.
The performance schedule for Mamma Mia! at the Mandalay Bay Theatre is
Sunday-Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. There is
no performance on Friday.
Big Brothers Big Sisters
BBBS volunteers in surrounding lanes were noisy and enthusiastic in
completing their games. This benefit was attended almost exclusively by
adults, although four children were present. One tried to hoist a ball
(weighing nearly as much as she did) down a lane. She and her sisters
were then content to assist with pulling winning raffle tickets during
several intervals.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is the oldest, largest and most effective youth
mentoring organization in the United States. They have been the leader
in one-to-one youth service for more than a century, developing positive
relationships that have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of
young people. Big Brothers Big Sisters mentors children, ages 6 through
18, in communities across the country. Their mission is to help children
reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one
relationships with mentors that have a measurable impact on youth.
By participating in youth mentoring programs, Little Brothers and
Sisters are more confident in their schoolwork performance, able to get
along better with their families, 46% less likely to begin using illegal
drugs, 27% less likely to begin using alcohol, and 52% less likely to
skip school. For more information:
