AVN Movie Awards are WOW!
People I know and those I don’t know have often asked me about the Adult Video Awards show. Well, this year I attended the Adult Video industry’s equivalent of the Oscars Award on January 10th at the Mandalay Bay Event Center. I had a great time. The show itself is only part of the experience.
There must have been a thousand mostly male spectators and fans lined up outside the Event Center to watch the nominees parade by in their party garb, some elegant, some outrageous, most not too generous on the allocation of material covering their bodies.

These are not women being honored for their intellect and they know it. So they show their attributes as best they can. And the fans love it. These are also women who know that pleasing their fans is much of what the evening is about.

They walked slowly, stopping often to pose for the barrage of flashes from the hundreds of cameras that lined the walkway.

They waved; they smiled; they moved their bodies to please the spectators.
Inside the Center, the main floor was filled with nominees and industry personnel. The upper sections of the audience included the fans who hooted and hollered for their favorite stars, videos, twosomes, threesomes, etc…
The AVN Awards represent the adult entertainment industry’s commitment to erotic artistry and free spirit. In that vein, comedian Thea Vidale got the evening going with her raw brand of humor, starting right at the top with Obama in the White House. Sorry, since this column can be read by children, there isn’t much I can repeat from her remarks.
Entertainer Flo Rida who was recently nominated for two Grammy awards added to upbeat feel of the evening. Make no mistake about it. This is a huge industry in the U.S. A. and the Awards are achievement based, dedicated to recognizing the outstanding products and talented individuals that have contributed to the advancement of the adult entertainment industry. AVN Award recipients are determined by a vote of qualified industry peers and fellow professionals. The integrity of this process, together with a broad-based voting population, makes the AVN Awards the most credible, respected and recognized awards in adult entertainment.
Belladonna and Jenna Haze co hosted the event which lasted well over two hours and included more than 100 categories. There were the traditional categories such as best director, male performer, female performer, best retailing title, and best screenplay and scores of other categories that I can’t even list because … well, You know.

When the show was over, the photo taking continued as the winners and other nominees exited the Events Center through the pathways surrounded once again by the hundreds of fans and onlookers. Many of them stopped to pose for pictures with fans.
Hey, I even got one with Evan Stone, winner of the “Best Actor” category. Then there were the after parties at a slew of nightspots around the city.
Personally, I found the evening to be fascinating, entertaining, and fun. The comedic videos inserted into the program, the antics of announcers and winners and the enthusiasm of the fans created an enjoyable exciting experience.
This isn’t Cirque De Soleil, but it is entertainment and I recommend the experience. In fact, I look forward to returning next year with my newly learned knowledge of names and faces Ticket prices this year ranged from $107 to $240 and like most events in Vegas, were available through Ticketmaster.
