ONESIX Sky Lounge Offers Spectacular View By Burt Davis Last week I covered the opening of Viva Vegas McDonald’s, which has a great kid’s menu. Last Thursday evening, December 18th, I attended the media preview of a “grown-ups” place which opened to the public the following night. ONE SIX Sky Lounge is on the 16th floor of the new Eastside Cannery Casino Hotel on Boulder Highway. This upscale lounge is certainly worth a visit.
Patrons are whisked to the lounge on a private non-stop elevator. As I exited the elevator, I was immediately taken in by the great view of the Boulder Highway and the Strip. The lounge has full length picture windows on three sides and an open patio/deck. The deck is a great place to enjoy the view while sipping a cocktail. 
The bar which features a wide selection of drinks that are reasonably priced is the centerpiece of the lounge. Wine by the glass or bottle is also available. The food is primarily what I would call upscale bar or finger food. We were served Ahi Tuna, coconut shrimp, and grilled cheese sandwiches as well as empanadas which are all on the menu The lounge is over 11,000 sq. foot, which includes a large dance floor and stand for a D.J. and a private dining room that caters to special events. I was impressed by the club's vibe. The staff was quite friendly and seemed to enjoy talking to the guests. The ONE SIX Sky Lounge is open Friday and Saturdays from 5 PM. Happy Hour is from 5 until 8 PM. The Composer’s Showcase—A Las Vegas Hidden Gem By Burt Davis There is a lot of great entertainment in this town. Much of it is designed for the tourists and gets extensive publicity. But a unique entertainment event occurs monthly at the Liberace Museum at 1775 East Tropicana at Spencer. The Composer’s Showcase is an entertainment forum that allows local composers, lyricists and songwriters the opportunity to present original material to a supportive audience in an informal cabaret-style setting. The Showcase is generally hosted by Keith Thompson (conductor of Jersey Boys) and/or Michael Brennan (conductor of Le Reve). It focuses on uniting the theater community of Las Vegas and revealing the creative spirit that abounds in the desert. The Liberace Museum hosts a cash bar and hors d’oeuvres buffet prepared by Carluccio’s Restaurant. Donations of $5-$10 are requested. Last week my friend Tom was in town and he mentioned that an old acquaintance was appearing in Mamma Mia, the hit show at the Luxor which closes its six year run next month at the Luxor. I had read that much of the cast was performing in “Mamma Mia’s Last Stand” at the Liberace Museum that night, so we decide to drop by. There was a special $10 admission charge for the event. It included the buffet, that offered salad and basic finger foods. The event was hosted by Tom’s friend, Rick Passagno, and Tim Tucker. Rick will shortly be going on tour with Fiddler on the Roof and Tim will remain in Vegas and work on developing an internet newsletter.   
Moriah Angeline Rick Passagno Colin Israel Rick introduced members of the Mamma Mia cast who demonstrated their singing talents. Moriah Angeline sang “If You Hadn’t But You Did” by Comden, Greene, and Styne. Colin Israel sang “Love To Me” by Adam Guettel. Some of the members of the Mamma Mia have been together since the show opened on February 13, 2003.
