The Four Queens Presents An Evening at La Cage

After performing at the Riviera for an amazing 23 years, An Evening At La Cage, the world famous female impersonator revue, closed in 2009 and went on hiatus. Now, two years later it is back and better than ever in its new home at the Four Queens Hotel and Casino in downtown Las Vegas. You have to admit, an ensemble of talented drag queens performing at the aptly titled venue, The Four Queens appears to be a match made in heaven, and it most certainly is.

The star and host of La Cage is comedian and impressionist Jimmy Emmerson who was the comedy lead and backup host for the show’s previous Las Vegas incarnation. Perfectly suited in this role, he brings along a vibrant, flamboyant personality and stage presence that is so likeable he easily creates a great rapport with the audience. In between acts, Emmerson changes into several over the top wigs, colorful, eye popping gowns and costumes, and as comedy relief has the audience roaring with laughter with jokes as well as his immensely funny impressions of Rosanne Barr, Anna Nicole Smith, Wynonna Judd and his very own queen of country music creation, the outrageous, Tammy Spraynette. Rounding out the cast of several of the world's top female impersonators are Brent Allen, Ryan Zink, Frankie Kein and Carlos Rodriguez who deliver mind blowing impressions of some of world's most famous entertainment icons including  Liza Minnelli, Marilyn Monroe, Lady Gaga, Barbra Streisand, Bette Midler, Madonna, Reba McEntire and more. Tribute artist, Lane Lassiter is also featured performing his outstanding take on the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

Although each of the performers lip sync to the songs, you can't help but be grabbed by their brilliant look alike appearance, spot on mannerisms and gestures of the real thing. The entire cast is fantastic, but a few stand out as mirror images of the superstars. As Reba, Zink can be her double and since I have seen Liza perform in person, I can say, without a doubt, Kein has her down pat, perfecting even the smallest details, facial movements and body language of her on stage persona.

For added support are the extraordinary La Cage dancers: Sarah Beck, Alesha Drew, Kelly Lake, and Kathleen Pederson that complete this high energy mix of impersonations, music, dance and comedy. La Cage delivers the goods as a highly entertaining, fun show with all the glamour and glitz you would expect from a Las Vegas production.

La Cage showcases drag queens, but the production is far from being a drag. Fabulous is much more like it.

Show times for An Evening at La Cage at the Four Queens are 9 pm, Wednesday through Sunday and 3 pm Sunday.
