Bellagio's Conservatory & Botanical Gardens Unveils New Elements in its Summer Season Display

BELLAGIO'S CONCERVATORY & BOTANICAL GARDENS recently revealed new elements to its summer display, featuring a spectacular floral exhibition filled with bright blooms and a playful carnival. The vibrant exhibit features a moving 11-foot tall carousel, a 40-foot full-scale Ferris wheel and patriotic displays of the Stars and Stripes.

New to the exhibit, at the entrance of the Conservatory , a reflective pond showcases an American Bald Eagle, made from coconut chips, magnolia leaves and chopped strawflowers, mounted on an over-scale replica of the Liberty Bell.  Nearby, a stone-based rustic greenhouse houses 30 live birds - Lorikeets and Rosellas.  Steps away, a father bear and his cub are seen on a whimsical fishing adventure, clad in botanical fishing vests and hats, both carrying wooden poles.

In conjunction with the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art’s new exhibit “A Sense of Place: Landscapes from Monet to Hockney,” the Conservatory has created an interpretation of Armand Guillaumin’s  Vue de Pontcharra Plaine de l'Isere le Soir (1901) using a colorful array of flora.  Located in the Giardini corner, the recreated painting is fitted within a 6-foot tall elaborately carved frame accompanied by a 12-foot wood tapered painter’s brush and oversized paint palette with simulated smeared oil paints.

The Martini Hosts Mayor Oscar Goodman's Last ‘Martinis with the Mayor’

Wednesday, May 25, THE MARTINI hosted MAYOR OSCAR GOODMAN'S last ‘Martinis with the Mayor’ after 12 years in office. The ‘meet and greet’ with the self-proclaimed “happiest mayor in the universe” and his trademark Las Vegas Showgirls gave Las Vegas residents a chance to mingle with Goodman before he leaves office after the June 2 city election.

In true “Oscar” fashion, the mayor arrived at the new gaming bar and restaurant flanked with his signature Las Vegas Showgirls. Immediately he was served his martini in an extra large martini glass!

The mayor mingled with guests including Julian Dugas with LVCVA, Shawn Lane of Cheyenne Marketing, KKLZ’s Mike O’Brien, Cynthia D. Cameron from Hooters Casino Hotel, the Former Las Vegas City Councilman Michael McDonald and current Councilman Steve Wolfson.

The mayor answered questions and interacted with the crowded bar of constituents for nearly two hours. One of the mayor’s supporters pulled up his shirt’s sleeve to reveal a full-sleeve Las Vegas themed tattoo with the the face of Mayor Oscar Goodman as the centerpiece . Through the cheers and laughs, Mayor Goodman autographed the tattoo. The young man said he was headed straight to the tattoo parlor after his drink so he could get that inked as well!

Everyone in attendance was in a light-hearted mood as The Martini’s staff charmed the guests with their fun-loving attitudes, generous signature drinks and appetizing unique dishes. The “Oscar”, a Bombay Sapphire straight-up martini, and “Carolyn”, a Sapphire fresh Collins, were the drink specials for the evening as well as a tasty mob-inspired menu items including Lefty’s Mac N’ Cheese Balls and Fat Herbie’s Flautas; to which Goodman piped in, “If Fat Herbie were here… he wouldn’t like being called Fat Herbie!”

When asked to comment on the upcoming mayoral election his response to one person’s question about his role should his wife be elected, the mayor answered, “It’s been my ambition in life to be a showgirl.” That’s all the mayor would say about his plans once he leaves office, leaving it unclear where the future will take him but making it clear enough that he considers Las Vegas home.
