Playboy Founder Hugh Hefner and Son, Marston, Celebrate Their Birthdays at Palms Casino Resort

Playboy founder and legend, Hugh Hefner returned to Palms Casino Resort on Saturday night, April 9 to commemorate his and son Marston’s birthdays at two of Las Vegas’s premier nightlife destinations, Playboy Club followed by Moon Nightclub where they were presented with a two-tiered birthday cake, created exclusively by Caked Las Vegas Bakery. While Hefner turned 85-years-old, Marston celebrated his 21st birthday in true Sin City fashion and received the prestigious VIP Playboy Club key.

On Wednesday afternoon April 13, Blue Man Group unveiled their larger-than-life, interactive 15-foot-tall statue on the Plaza at Fashion Show located on 3200 Las Vegas Blvd. South. KVVU Fox5’s MORE anchor Arran Andersen hosted the event, capturing the Blue Men discovering and interacting with the state-of-the-art display for the first time. Designed by YESCO LLC for Blue Man Group Las Vegas, the one-of-a-kind custom statue features two large, high-definition monitors and an interactive “fan cam.”  The fan cam records video of visitors and broadcasts it live on one of the monitors.  The second monitor features exclusive Blue Man Group clips and content from the show. During the event, Andersen hosted a trivia contest and gave away exclusive merchandise to the crowd. To celebrate, a larger-than-life Twinkie cake designed by Freed’s Bakery of Las Vegas was presented to the Blue Men to commemorate their first visit to see their statue. Complimentary Twinkies, a signature snack from Blue Man Group performances, were passed out for attendees to enjoy.

April is National Humor Month and the Las Vegas Improvisation Players are celebrating it with a brand new show of hilarious improvised comedy. The “all new, every time” comedy improv show starts at 7:00 p.m. at the American Heritage Academy, located at 6126 South Sandhill Road in Las Vegas. Tickets are only $10.

In honor of his birthday, Executive Chef Geno Bernardo hosted a special cooking class, Geno’s Favorite Dishes, at Nove Italiano inside Palms Casino Resort on Saturday, April 9. During the class, Chef Geno and Mixologist Jack “Sugar” O’Brien were surprised with a large cake created by Caked Las Vegas Bakery, made in the shape of Italy, to celebrate their birthdays.

The Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open commemorates National Volunteer Week April 10 – 16 by encouraging the Las Vegas community to get involved with the 2011 tournament and become a volunteer. Volunteers can assist in a variety of areas including admissions, gallery control, standard bearers, caddie services, transportation, corporate hospitality, special events and more. In addition to working alongside some of the biggest names in golf, volunteers receive a week-long tournament admission badge and a ticket to the volunteer party. Volunteers are distinguished from tournament fans by their uniforms, which are required.  A $50 uniform fee covers the cost of the official volunteer tournament jacket, golf shirt and hat, and all meals during their shift. In celebration of “Teach Children To Save Day” on April 12, United Way of Southern Nevada is partnering with the Nevada Bankers Association and Clark County School Districts to teach elementary students financial responsibility and the importance of developing savings habits from April 11- 29. Aligned with United Way’s core principal of providing lasting change through financial stability, nearly 140 classes will be held at schools across the Valley reaching 7,500 students. Volunteer instructors from eight banks, in connection with Nevada Bankers Association will teach a 45 minute class to students and offer tips on the importance of saving money for a rainy day.


The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino celebrates two years as Las Vegas’ premier rock ‘n’ roll venue on Thursday, April 14. In honor of its two year anniversary, The Joint presents a sold out concert by indie rock group Arcade Fire with special guest Local Natives. Arcade Fire recently took the music scene by storm when they won “Album of the Year” for their third album The Suburbs at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards. The seven-piece band will hit the stage at The Joint beginning at 8 p.m.

Peter Tork & Shoe Suede Blues, a traditional blues band fronted by Tork, an original member of The Monkees, will perform at the City of Henderson’s signature cultural arts series, ArtBeat presented by Target, Friday, April 15 at 8 p.m. at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water Street, in the Water Street District. Pre-show activities begin at 5 p.m. Admission is complimentary.

The Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino will hold the third annual World Series of Slots® April 15-17, 2011. Players will battle head-to-head in several rounds of slot play for their share of more than a quarter of a million dollars in prize money and a championship bracelet. The 2011 Aid for AIDS of Nevada (AFAN) AIDS Walk will take place on Sunday, April 17 at the World Market Center. Penn & Teller serve as Grand Marshals for the tenth consecutive year. Taking the stage for their first AIDS Walk performance is the cast from the musical phenomenon, JERSEY BOYS who will perform hits from their famous Strip production. Returning for another year is Las Vegas’ one and only glee club, On with the Show, as well as DJ Axis, lending his talents on the decks. Comedian Hal Sparks from the Showtime series Queer as Folk will address the crowd and be available for a meet and greet with walkers. Finally, resident to the V Theater, The Tap Dancing Twins, will defy all tap dancing norms with an exciting live performance. The 2011 Walk has received continued support from the corporate community of Las Vegas. Caesars Entertainment has raised the stakes for the top 10 fundraisers in the Penn & Tell Challenge this year by offering tickets to see Celine Dion’s new production. Casa Fuente inside The Forum Shops at Caesars will welcome Th Balvanie Rare Craft Road Show on Monday, April 18 from noon – 8 p.m.  Famed Scottish whisky distillery, The Balvenie has launched an American road trip with Brand Ambassadors Nicholas Pollacchi and Andrew Weir crisscrossing the country in a handmade Morgan automobile, to discover rare American craftsmanship.

Retro-swing band Royal Crown Revue will perform at The Lounge inside the Palms Casino Resort during the Viva Las Vegas rockabilly convention. Dancers from Disney’s THE LION KING at Mandalay Bay will perform a showcase of original dance choreography, “Live. Love. Dance!,” at the Nicholas J. Horn Theatre on CSN’s Cheyenne Campus April 22 at 7 p.m. All proceeds benefit the Performing Arts Center to enhance programming and provide access to underserved populations in the community. Each dance piece will be choreographed and performed by members of THE LION KING cast. Dance styles will include jazz, ballet, contemporary ballet, contemporary modern, burlesque, gospel, Fosse funk, contemporary funk and hip-hop/modern fusion. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students, $10 for children under age 12 and CSN students with valid ID.

Bettie Page inside Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino hosts a meet-and-greet with Claire Sinclair, the face of Bettie Page Clothing, from 1 to 5 p.m. on Friday, April 22. Sinclair will be available to take photographs and sign autographs for fans.  The Las Vegas resident, rumored to soon be named Playboy's 2011 Playmate of the Year, returns as a guest star in MGM Grand’s Crazy Horse Paris April 20 – 27.

The Village Lake Las Vegas located at 15 Costa di Lago in Henderson, NV, will hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt Sunday, April 24, 2011 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Kids of all ages are invited to join the fun, visit with the Easter Bunny or participate in one of the Easter egg hunts, with the chance to win prizes, toys and candy. Saturday afternoon, April 9, sisters Kyle and Kim Richards of reality TV series Beverly Hills Housewives, kicked off the summer pool season of Azure Luxury Pool at The Palazzo in style while Spiegel presented a fashion show featuring the new travel and swim collection. The day ended with a signature three-tiered cake decorated with high-end fashion brands, zebra print and sparkles.

Alessandra Ambrosio celebrated her 30th birthday in a cabana at the Grand Opening of the Marquee Dayclub at the Cosmopolitan with her family including her sister and boyfriend.

Afterwards, Alessandra and family headed out to Tao for a birthday dinner.  They brought along her daughter Anja who was in awe of the giant Buddha and koi pond and kept her dad Jamie on his toes.  After dinner the Brazilian stunner was surprised with a giant fortune cookie brought out as the entire restaurant sang happy birthday before the group made their way to Marquee Nightclub. Actresses Selma Blair and Jamie-Lynn Sigler was also spotted separately at Alessandra’s birthday party.

Also spotted over the Marquee Dayclub Grand Opening Celebration Saturday night was The Hangover actor Justin Bartha and Oscar winner Adrian Brody.  Both joined Marquee owner Jason Strauss at Tao for dinner to celebrate his birthday before making their way to Marquee Nightclub to check out superstar DJ Erick Morillo.

Taye Diggs was spotted in the Boom Box Room at Marquee Nightclub for the Grand Opening of the Marquee Dayclub .

Pop rock musician, Ryan Cabrera, was spotted enjoying a bite to eat with friends on the Cabo Wabo Cantina patio inside Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood. The group was overheard discussing plans to help friend Jenna Jameson celebrate her birthday at Chateau Nightclub & Gardens at Paris Las Vegas that evening..

Travis Cloer of Jersey Boys fame and local singer Carmine Mandia not only were spotted at the opening of Vintage Vegas starring Zowie Bowie in the Ovation Room at Green Valley Ranch, each performer took a turn on stage.
