Longtime Publicist Frank Lieberman Passes Away

I am deeply saddened to report the passing of my friend and colleague, long time Las Vegas publicist and entertainment journalist Frank Lieberman. He died Saturday morning, January 22 at Summerlin Hospital in Las Vegas after breaking a shoulder during a fall the prior Tuesday. He was 68. He leaves behind his lovely wife of almost 40 years, Karen, son Adam and daughter Laura.

Lieberman had been in declining health for several years due to kidney failure and heart problems.

Lieberman was originally from New York City but relocated to Los Angeles with his family when he was 14.  He worked as a sportswriter for a Los Angeles area newspaper before moving on to cover the entertainment scene for the Los Angeles Herald-Examiner until the paper folded in 1989.  He moved to Las Vegas in 1997 while working as a publicist on the film "Vegas Vacation".

For nearly a decade he was publicist for Siegfried & Roy.  He left the magicians in 2003 shortly before Roy Horn was severely injured on stage by one of his tigers. More recently, he wrote an entertainment column for the Las Vegas Israelite.

During his career in the entertainment industry he represented stars including Sammy Davis Jr, Tony Danza, Tony Orlando, and Engelbert Humperdinck.

Over the years he gained the respect and befriended numerous celebrities, Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme, Barry Manilow, and Wayne Newton to name a few. But the one friendship that he most cherished and clearly was a highlight in his life was his friendship with Elvis Presley that was formed after Frank wrote a gleaming1970 feature story on the King. That led to a rare one on one interview with the star. Elvis was so fond of Frank that he gave him an authentic TCB (taking care of business) necklace that he was often seen wearing at several media functions.

On a personal note, I knew Frank as a soft spoken but to-the-point kind of guy.  He was a hard working member of the media who could be seen with his loyal and loving wife at most openings and other press events.

In recent years he developed a close friendship with Las Vegas locals, powerhouse entertainer Clint Holmes and his talented wife singer/comedian Kelly Clinton whom he also represented and helped manage.

For those of us who knew Frank, he will be sorely missed. Like Elvis, he may have left the building, but not our memories. May he rest in peace.

Funeral services for Frank Lieberman took place Tuesday, January 25 at Eden Cemetery in the Los Angeles suburb of Mission Hills.
