Music & Arts Society Celebrates its Launch in Downtown

Jesse Saunders, world-renowned DJ/producer, remixer and originator of the musical genre “House Music,” and Evelyn Thompson, artist, interior designer, speaker, visionary and social architect, co-founders of the Music & Arts Society, celebrated the official launch of their nonprofit organization with a VIP party Thursday evening June 10  at The Arts Factory located at the corner of Charleston Blvd. and Main Street in downtown Las Vegas.

Golden Rainbow Holds 24th Annual “Ribbon of Life” Fund raising Show

On Sunday June 13, I attended the 24th annual “Ribbon of Life”   charity fundraiser at the Las Vegas Hilton presented by the Las Vegas based HIV/AIDS charity Golden Rainbow.  Proceeds in the amount of of $175,000 from ticket sales (which ranged from $25 to 200) and a silent auction went to benefit Golden Rainbow whose mission is to provide housing and direct financial assistance to southern Nevadans living with HIV/AIDS and to support prevention education.

Sgt Pepper Live featuring Cheap Trick at Paris Las Vegas

Tea Professionals Convene at 2010 World Tea Expo

The annual World Tea Expo took place June 11 – 13 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. During the three days over 5,000 industry professionals convened in the city to focus on the latest trends, best new products, services and wares in the $7 billion specialty tea industry.  More than 200 exhibits displayed more than 100 new products at this year's show with many first timers and returning exhibitors launching new tea blends, tea ware, books and flavors to create the most “tasteful” tea  experience possible.

On June 7, Celebrity athlete and UFC sports legend Chuck Liddell was immortalized in wax by Madame Tussauds Las Vegas at the UFC’s Fan Expo at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. On July 1, Liddell will make a personal appearance to see his figure for the first time at a VIP party and figure unveiling hosted at Madame Tussauds Las Vegas. The UFC star’s figure is part of a Chuck Liddell Experience at Madame Tussauds that includes a photo opportunity with the figure posed in a UFC “cage.” The 40 year-old athlete is the first mixed martial arts athlete to be inducted into Madame Tussauds, located in front of the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino. To celebrate Liddell’s induction into the famed collection, guests will receive a $5 discount off general admission, now thru July 4 if they mention Chuck Liddell or UFC at Madame Tussauds’ box office.

On Thursday, June 17, SKYBAR, at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, unveils an exclusive photo exhibit featuring the works of legendary rock photographer, Neal Preston. The collection provides an extensive overview of Preston’s body of work, shot over four decades. It includes a limited-edition never-before-seen Led Zeppelin enlarged contact sheet which is a collaboration between HRH magazine and Neal Preston. A public reception will be held at SKYBAR from 9 to 11 pm on June 17. Signed and numbered limited-edition exhibition prints will be available for purchase at the Hard Rock Retail Store. Preston’s exhibit, will be on display inside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino beginning June 18, following the unveiling event at SKYBAR.

In celebration of “Father’s Day,” Madame Tussauds Las Vegas located in front of The Venetian Resort-Hotel-Casino, is hosting “dads-go-free” on Sunday, June 20. Among the many dads-turned-stars now on show at Madame Tussauds are Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, and Snoop Dogg. The dads-go-free offer at Madame Tussauds Las Vegas is applicable June 20 only and must be accompanied by a paid Adult admission.

Due to popular demand, Disney’s THE LION KING is extending its spectacular two-for-one offer for Nevadans through June 30, 2010. “THE LION KING Loves the Locals” offer is in celebration of the production’s one-year anniversary at Mandalay Bay.

Reggae legends The Wailers will entertain their fans with a concert performance Saturday, July 10 at 9 p.m. Tickets are $25.

The Gipsy Kings brings its flamenco-style music for a Friday, July 16 performance at 9 p.m. Tickets are $52.50.

Popular reggae musician Ziggy Marley performs Saturday, July 17 at 9 p.m. Tickets are $40.

Jamaican ska and reggae singer/musician Jimmy Cliff performs Saturday, July 24 at 9 p.m. Tickets are $32.50.

“Le Rêve,” the evocative aqua spectacle in-the-round, presented exclusively at Wynn Las Vegas, will be dark (no performances) June 16 – July 1.The show will resume its normal schedule on Friday, July 2.

ABBA The Music performs some of the greatest hits from the Swedish pop phenomenon on Sunday, June 27 at 7 p.m. at the Casablanca Event Center in Eastside Cannery Casino & Hotel. Tickets are available in two levels: Prime at $24.95 and Reserved at $17.95. Ticket prices do not include tax and applicable fees. Must be 5 years or older to attend.

“Artist in Africa: Wildlife and Landscapes of Kenya’s Masai Mara,”a presentation by award-winning artist and naturalist Sharon K. Schafer will take place from 7-8:15 p.m. Thursday, June 17, at the Paseo Verde Library – located at 280. S. Green Valley Parkway near the 215 Beltway.

Neil Simon’s comedy classic, “The Odd Couple” will be staged at six benefit performances in the BackStage Theatre at the College of Southern Nevada’s Cheyenne Campus, located at 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave. Shows are June 18, 19, 25 and 26 at 7 p.m., and June 20 and 27 at 2 p.m. Proceeds from the show will go to the Vicente Rodriguez Memorial Scholarship at CSN. Rodriguez, a 20-year old stagehand, tragically fell to his death from a catwalk at the MGM in May 2009. Tickets are $20 and available by calling the CSN Box Office at 651-LIVE (5483). Student, senior and advance ticketing discounts are available.

Emmy award-winning actor/comedian Brad Garrett is opening his new comedy club at the Tropicana Las Vegas on June 28.Garrett will be the first to headline his new comedy club, Brad Garrett’s Comedy Club from Monday, June 28 through Sunday, July 4. The venue will showcase a never-ending line-up of the finest comedians around – from established stand-up stars to the hottest young comics in the business. Following his initial week, Garrett will make additional club appearances – some scheduled and some unexpected – both doing stand-up on the stage and greeting patrons at the door. As part of the two-year exclusive deal with Tropicana, Garrett’s comedy club will be the only location in Las Vegas at which guests may see Garrett perform. Also scheduled to headline at Brad Garrett’s Comedy Club in 2010 are Kevin Nealon, Dom Irrera, Bob Zany, Rondell Sheridan, Rocky LaPorte and other surprise celebrity guests. Featuring comedy seven nights a week, the show times will be Sunday through Thursday at 8 p.m., with two shows on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Admission starts at $39. VIP package seats are $59 (plus tax and fees) and include a line pass, and preferred venue seating. Guests must be 18 years of age and older. Tickets go on sale today, June 9.

The multi-talented actor, singer and comedian David Alan Grier will perform his hilarious routine for one night only, Friday, July 2 at 9 p.m. in the Mandalay Bay Theatre. Tickets are priced at $30 and $45. International pop diva Coco Lee is bringing her East to West World Tour to the Encore Theater for concerts on July 3 and July 4 at 8 p.m. The Encore Theater will be her only stop in Las Vegas on her tour.

Tickets are now on sale for $68, $138 and $188, inclusive of tax and service charge. Starship starring Mickey Thomas will perform in concert at Eastside Cannery Casino & Hotel on Saturday, July 10 at 8 p.m. in the Casablanca Event Center.Tickets are available now in two levels: Prime at $24.95 and Reserved at $17.95.

Tuesday night, June 8 LAVO celebrated “Rewind to the 90’s” with host Biz Markie. Once upstairs he surprised club goers with an impromptu performance of his single “Just a Friend,” which was a Top 10 hit. After his performance he continued his hosting duties in the DJ booth, taking pictures with fans, beat boxing and singing along as DJ FIVE spun for the club.

Saturday afternoon June 12, Beyonce's younger sister Solange Knowles spun a special DJ set for a packed crowd at TAO Beach. Later in the evening, Knowles dined at TAO Asian Bistro with friends.

The entire cast and crew of Le Reve came to Blush Boutique Nightclub on Saturday night to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the show. More than 70 cast and crew members converged at the Wynn hotspot following their Saturday performance.At 12:45 am the Blush staff presented the group with a multi-level cake representing aspects of the hit show.

On Sunday afternoon, June 12 magician Siegfried (of Sigfried and Roy fame) was spotted with protégé Darren Romeo in the audience at the Las Vegas Hilton Theatre during Golden Rainbow's Ribbon of Life fundraising production. Also spotted in attendance was singer Josh Strickland.
