Mayor Oscar B. Goodman Celebrates 70th Birthday Party at Fremont Street Experience

Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman, known as “the happiest Mayor in the Universe”, celebrated his 70th birthday in Las Vegas style on Friday, July 31 with a public birthday street party at Fremont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas.

The mayor’s birthday celebration took place at the First Street Stage Plaza next to Golden Nugget from 7-10 p.m. Among the long list of entertainment for the special occasion was Venetian headliner Wayne Brady, magician Nathan Burton and lounge entertainment duo Zowie Bowie, to name a few. The event was emceed by KLUC FM’s Chet Buchanan. Admission at the gate was $20 with proceeds benefiting Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, Opportunity Village and Three Square.

Mac King Participates in the 24th Annual World FISM™ Championships in Beijing, China


Comedy magician Mac King who performs an afternoon show at Harrahs’s in Las Vegas was selected by The International Federation of Magic Societies to perform at the 24th Annual World FISM™ Championships in Beijing, China. The event was held Sunday, July 26 through Friday, July 31.

More than 2,000 magicians from around the world participated for titles of the World’s Best in categories such as card magic, manipulation and stage illusions, to name a few. King participated as a guest performer during the six-day event in Beijing. This was the first time that Mac King has participated in the FISM Championships since 2000 when the event was held in Portugal.

On July 31st, show producer Lynne Foster, wife of Dick Foster of Dick Foster Productions passed away at her vacation home in Twin Falls, Idaho. She was 62. The Fosters produced several productions including the stage-spectacular Spellbound at Harrah's, Imagine at the Luxor, the Rio's Show In the Sky, and most recently the musical Hats! at Harrah's Las Vegas. Our sincere condolences goes out to her family and friends.

Nevada Ballet Theatre has named singer, author, television personality, Broadway performer and philanthropist Marie Osmond as its ‘Woman of the Year’ for the 2010 Black & White Ball. As half of the beloved singing duo “Donny & Marie,” this all-around entertainer will be honored on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Paris Las Vegas. Surrounded by arts supporters, local dignitaries and celebrities, Osmond will accept her ‘Woman of the Year’ award in the Champagne Ballroom at Paris Las Vegas, following an elegant evening of cocktails, dinner and lively entertainment. This year, in place of a VIP reception held prior to the event, those guests will instead be treated to a special VIP post Black & White Ball Meet and Greet with Osmond. Proceeds from the evening will allow Nevada Ballet Theatre to continue to provide main stage productions by its professional company, quality dance training within its affiliated school, the Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre, as well as through its Education and Outreach program, Future Dance.


Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.The Shag Me Salon located at 4110 S. Maryland Pkwy., Suite 21, is holding its second annual Shag-a-Thon where patrons can get a wash/cut for a $20 donation. All proceeds, including stylist’s tips, will be donated to American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Whitney Recreation Center will host the Fourth Annual Back to School Bash from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 21 at 5712 E. Missouri Ave. near Boulder Highway. The event will feature great resources for parents and lots of fun for kids. Some of the activities and services such as haircuts, hairstyles, music, face painting and a limited school supply giveaway will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The center also will be collecting school supplies, which will be given out during the Back to School Bash, through Aug. 20. The event is free, but pre-registration is required. Mixed Martial Arts legend Randy “The Natural” Couture will host his Second Annual “Operation All In” poker tournament and charity auction benefiting the Xtreme Couture G.I. Foundation in The Grand events center at the Golden Nugget Las Vegas, Aug. 22 starting at 2 p.m. The event is open to the public and will feature a celebrity charity poker tournament, live and silent auctions, autographs sessions, and an amazing chance to win big, while giving back to injured troops who have selflessly put their lives on the line in the protection of America’s freedom. On Saturday, August 22 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., AFAN (Aid for AIDS of Nevada) hosts its 23rd Annual Black & White Party poolside at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The evening’s entertainment line-up includes: the mash-up of renowned DJ Axis; a battle between guest DJs; celebrity impersonators; live performances by international entertainer and guitarist, Charo as well as Pepper MaShay, singer best known for her hit, “Dive in the Pool” featured in the Showtime drama series soundtrack, Queer as Folk; synchronized swimming mermaids; flame throwers and fire dancers; appearances by Las Vegas headliners including Hooters Casino Hotel’s Men of X, Flamingo Hotel’s X Burlesque, longtime AFAN supporters Penn & Teller and more. Guests will be treated to tastings from some of Las Vegas’ premier restaurants, including: Hard Rock Hotel & Casino’s own AGO, Rare 120 and Pink Taco; The Cupcakery; PF Chang’s; Sushi Roku; BOA Steakhouse; The Cookie Zoo and more. The Osmonds – Wayne, Merrill, Jay and Jimmy – will perform in concert at The Orleans Showroom, August 28, 29 and 30. Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets prices start from $34.95, plus tax.

Stand-up comic, producer and writer Drew Carey will perform in The Terry Fator Theatre at The Mirage Friday, August 28 and Saturday, August 29 at 10 p.m. Joining Carey will be the talented cast of The Improv All Stars: Ryan Stiles, Kathy Kinney, Chip Esten, Jeff Davis, Sean Masterson, Julie Larson and Laura Hall on piano. Comedy icon and Season Two winner of TV’s The Celebrity Apprentice, Joan Rivers will perform a limited engagement in the Showroom at The Venetian Resort-Hotel-Casino. August 27 - 29 and September 3 - 5. Ticket prices are $45.75, $65.75 and $85.75 inclusive of tax and handling fees.


The first annual “The Face- Time for Change” Cultural Summer Jam will be performed on Saturday, August 29 at The Plaza Hotel and Casino. The College of Southern Nevada Department of Fine Arts is seeking males and female ages 18-55 for its November 6-22 production of “The Madwoman of Chaillot,” by Jean Giraudoux and adapted by Maurice Valency. Director Douglas H. Baker will conduct auditions on Sept. 1 and 2 from 7:00 –9:00 p.m. in the Recital Hall (Room 1430) at the Cheyenne Campus, 3200 E. On Wednesday, Aug. 5...

“Prison Break” star Dominic Purcell spotted hanging out at Body English at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore hosted the after party for “SPREAD” at ghostbar following the red carpet premiere of the film starring Kutcher and Anne Heche. The screening was held at Brenden Theaters inside the Palms Casino Resort earlier in the evening (“SPREAD” will be released nationwide on Aug. 14).

Following the red carpet, Kutcher and Moore hosted a dinner with ten friends inside N9NE Steakhouse. The duo was joined by Robin Antin, Matt Gross, Soleil Moon Fry and Kutcher’s business partner Jason Goldberg in the private dining room of the restaurant.

Around 10 p.m., the group headed up to the premiere after party at ghostbar, located above N9NE Steakhouse on the 55th floor of the Palms overlooking the Las Vegas Strip.

At a separate table dining inside N9NE Steakhouse was MLB star Frank Thomas aka “the Big Hurt.”

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, along with sons Kingston and Zuma, were spotted checking into one of the new Paradise Tower suites at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The couple was in town for Gwen's performance with No Doubt at the Joint.

A. Jay Popoff and Jeremy Popoff from the punk group LIT were spotted among the packed house at the No Doubt concert at the Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

Jillian Harris and Ed Swiderski, the newly engaged couple from ABC’s The Bachelor, dined on LAVO’s expansive terrace.

Also dining at LAVO was actress Natasha Henstridge.

Recording artist Baby Bash hosted an autograph signing session at Hawaiian Tropic Zone inside Miracle Mile Shops.

Saturday, August 8...

Natasha Henstridge and her fiancé Darius Campbell share August 15th as their birthday and decided to celebrate early in Vegas with close friends at TAO. After dinner they headed to the nightclub for a VIP table on the dance floor.

Also, spotted at TAO was Grammy award winner Estelle, who dined with her friends and crew before heading to LA to appear on The Tonight Show.

Gossip Girl star Jessica Szohr spent the day at TAO beach helping her brother Nick celebrate his 21st birthday. They continued the party with dinner at TAO before adjourning to the nightclub

At LAVO, actress Ali Landry was overheard raving about the food at the Italian hot spot.

Also spotted upstairs at LAVO Nightclub was Star Trek actor John Cho, who was part of a bachelor party that took over a table on the dance floor.

Tracy Ayala, who owns the William Rast clothing line with business partner and childhood friend Justin Timberlake, was also seen at LAVO. Ayala and friends made a second stop at TAO later in the night.


Mixed martial arts fans were treated to a special advanced screening of “MMA 30” with show host Dave Farra inside Hawaiian Tropic Zone inside Miracle Mile Shop. Special guests in attendance included fighter Junie Browning and Kim Couture.

Monday, August 10 Jason “Wee Man” Acuña from MTV’s “Jackass” was spotted with a leggy brunette walking through Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
