Michael Jackson One by Cirque du Soleil Hosted the Annual Celebration of the King of Pop's Birthday

Michael Jackson ONE by Cirque du Soleil, in collaboration with The Estate of Michael Jackson, honored the legendary King of Pop’s birthday by delighting guests with fun-filled activities inside its world-class theater at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

The two-day birthday festivities began Sunday, Aug. 28, with a special screening of the record-setting behind-the-scenes documentary, “Making of Michael Jackson’s Thriller,” to all in the theater, including Michael’s son, Prince, who was in attendance.  The 45-minute documentary was followed by an exclusive Q & A session with musical director and keyboardist, Greg Phillinganes. In recognition of the upcoming 40thanniversary of the world’s best-selling album, “Thriller,” Greg shared personal stories of having worked with Michael.

The audience was then dazzled by a specially created, one-time-only performance by the electrifying cast of Michael Jackson ONE. The dance number, performed to Michael’s hit “The Girl Is Mine” from the “Thriller” album, was conceived by cast members and Dance Master Tiffany Baker.

SuperZoo Welcomes 16K Pet Industry Professionals to 2022 Trade Show

From August 23-25, Las Vegas’s Mandalay Bay Convention Center was packed with pet industry professionals from around the world for SuperZoo, North America’s leading pet retail trade show. Produced by World Pet Association (WPA), SuperZoo 2022 welcomed more than 16,000 pet professionals, representing over 25 countries and all 50 states, to engage in new product introductions, expert-led education sessions and peer-to-peer networking events. The energetic 331,500 square foot show floor featured more than 1,000 exhibitors from every pet product category: Natural and Health, Specialty and Lifestyle, Farm and Feed, Aquatics, Reptiles and Small Animals, Groomers Marketplace, Emerging Brands and the New Product Showcase, including an impressive 262 first-time exhibitors and 72 emerging brands. 900+ products made their debut in SuperZoo’s sold-out New Product Showcase.

The access to wholesalers, distributors and other brands to network with was incredible. SuperZoo was absolutely awesome,” said Peter Liu, co-founder of RIFRUF.

“SuperZoo is very professionally put together in a thoughtful way that enhanced the experience. In the live animals area, people are able to come up to see the animals, hold the animals, and it allows us as exhibitors to be interactive with potential customers,” said anonymous of Northwest Zoological Supply (live animals).

SuperZoo’s customizable education lineup delivered 70+ seminars and trainings—led by nearly 30 industry thought leaders—to help pet professionals refine their retail strategies, master the latest grooming techniques and stay ahead of animal wellness trends. Following input from attendees, show organizers streamlined the 2022 education program, with sessions taking place Monday and Tuesday to allow for more time on the show floor to discover the newest pet products and innovations. This year’s education featured two specialty tracks—grooming and retail—and highly-attended 30-minute Free Show Floor Talks that covered consumer trends, technology, social media and influencer marketing, sales tactics and more.

A record-breaking 900 debut products were on display at SuperZoo’s sold-out New Product Showcase. On Tuesday, August 23, a panel of five industry experts selected first-place winners and runners-up in 10 different product categories, as well as one award for the Best New-to-Market Pet Product for 2022.

With more than $35,000 in winnings at stake, SuperZoo’s grooming contests celebrated the creativity and talent of grooming professionals on the industry’s grandest stage. Awards were given in multiple divisions for each regular breed class, as well as nine special contests.

WPA also recognized several pet retailers and industry leaders during the WPA Chairman’s Reception, which was held at the Skyfall Lounge in the Delano on Tuesday, August 23. Each year, WPA honors pet retailers and industry leaders for their achievements and contributions in helping make a difference in the industry and in pets’ lives.

SuperZoo 2023 will be shifting to new Wednesday through Friday dates, taking place August 16-18, 2023, with education August 15-16.

Make-A-Wish Recipient Dances with Derek Hough at the Venetian Resort Las Vegas

Three-time Emmy award winner and six-time Dancing with the Stars champion, Derek Hough partnered with Make-A-Wish to grant the wish of 16-year-old Reese from Hamilton, Ohio. Reese, who has epilepsy, is a former competitive dancer and it was her wish to meet Derek and see him perform live in Derek Hough: No Limit at The Venetian® Resort Las Vegas.

Derek met with Reese and her family before his show inside The Summit Showroom. The group posed for pictures before going inside the theatre for a Q&A session and tour. For the grand finale, and unbeknownst to Reese, Derek did more than make her wish come true and invited Reese on stage to dance with him, putting the biggest smile on her face.

Describing his inspiration for the residency project, Putzier stated that he will focus on the role neon signage has played in serving as visual representatives of expression, personality, and leisure. “I plan to explore the way this design iconography has impacted the field of architecture. In my solo show, I will highlight sci-fi futuristic space-age forms and geometry, from the design history of Las Vegas, by collaging their elements into completely new works of art.” In selecting Putzier, 2022 guest AIR juror, associate curator and outreach director for the Nevada Museum of Art, Carmen Beals described his work as “engaging, futuristic, bold, and engaging.” She stated, “his prior geometric sculptures are fun, brightly colored, and flamboyant, which match the expectations of this great city.”  Selected from a record number of high-quality and diverse submissions, Putzier will visit Las Vegas for an introductory week in September when he will have the opportunity to explore the city and learn more about its cultural and architectural history. He will then return to Las Vegas at the end of the year to create new work during the six-week residency period, culminating in a solo exhibition.
