Food is Art ‘Black Ties & Blue Jeans’ Event Raises More than $280,000 for the ALS Association Nevada Chapter

Through the generosity and support of the local community and headline sponsors: Team Ford/Lincoln of Las Vegas, Golden Entertainment, Inc., Action Gaming, Kaercher Insurance, Gaming Arts, The Godfather of Las Vegas, Konami, and United Healthcare, the 4th annual Food is Art raised $282,562 for the ALS Association Nevada Chapter on Friday, Oct. 4.

“We have worked incredibly hard to grow this event and in doing so, are continuing to provide more support for those with ALS and their families,” said Steve Arcana, chief operating officer of Golden Entertainment, Inc. “This is very personal for me and I’m grateful for the support of the Las Vegas community in making this event a success.” Arcana, who lost his mother to ALS, is also a board member for the ALS Association Nevada Chapter.

The amount raised in 2019 exceeds last year’s total of $185,422 by nearly $100,000, and more than doubles the total, $118,640, from 2017. In total, Food is Art has raised $748,618 for the ALS Association Nevada Chapter since the first event in 2016. The money raised will assist the non-profit organization in its mission to serve all persons and their families living with and fighting ALS in Nevada, one person at a time. The Nevada Chapter provides much-needed programs that offer emotional, physical, and financial assistance and currently serves over 100 people with ALS in Nevada.

This year’s event honored Christopher J. Curtis, a life-long Nevada resident and retired senior partner of Thorndal Armstrong. Curtis’ efforts are the inspiration behind TeamCuris4ACure, an organization founded to assist in the fight to raise awareness and funding for ALS.

“We are beyond grateful for the generosity our community showed in supporting our Food is Art fundraiser,” said April Mastroluca, executive director of the ALS Association Nevada Chapter. “The money raised by this event will help support so many Nevadans who are afflicted with ALS and their families.”

Held at Keep Memory Alive Event Center, Food is Art showcased the cuisine of local chefs from 12 Las Vegas restaurants, including: Top of the World and BLVD & MAIN Taphouse at The STRAT Hotel, Casino and SkyPod, STK at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Esther’s Kitchen, Sambalatte and Delmonico. More than 300 guests, dressed in this year’s theme of “black ties & blue jeans,” enjoyed live entertainment by Franks & Deans while sampling cuisine paired with wine selected by award-winning sommeliers.
