Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation Celebrates Grand Opening of New Britney Spears Campus

The Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation (NCCF) celebrated the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony of the organization’s new Britney Spears Campus, located at 3711 E. Sunset Rd. in Henderson, with major donor and international Icon and performer, Britney Spears on Saturday, Nov. 4. Clark County Commissioner Steve Sisolak also joined in on the festivities, declaring it Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation and Britney Spears Day.

The new 16,000 square-foot facility, which houses 45 programs and services for children diagnosed with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses as well as adults diagnosed with cancer, was made possible by Britney Spears and her efforts to raise one million dollars with donations from ticket sales from her “Piece of Me” show at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, as well as major donors including Southwest Specialty Contractors, Zappos, Robert Earl, Live Nation, Fusch Commercial Interiors and Design, Caesars Entertainment, Elizabeth Arden, and Ann White of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 1993, which offers over 45 programs and services including a variety of educational services, financial support and counseling for critically-ill children and their families living in Southern Nevada. The foundation's mission is to work side by side with the medical community to provide social, emotional, educational, financial and psychological support services and programs to families of ALL children diagnosed with a life threatening or critical illness such as cancer.

Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Breaks Ground on New Library in East Las Vegas

On Thursday, November 2, The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District (LVCCLD) broke ground for a new library in East Las Vegas anticipated to open in spring 2019. Made possible through the joint efforts of LVCCLD, the City of Las Vegas, Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority and the Las Vegas Natural History Museum, the 41,050 square-foot library facility will serve as a community hub for learning, economic advancement, and civic engagement.

“This new library will be an invaluable resource for the East Las Vegas community, providing opportunities for growth that this neighborhood richly deserves,” said Dr. Ronald Heezen, executive director of LVCCLD. “The facility is surrounded by 19 schools and will give thousands of children and adults critical access to free WiFi, a computer lab, and educational resources that will reduce the ‘digital divide’ and make things like school projects and job-hunting easier.”

The East Las Vegas Library will become a focal point for community gatherings, cultural events, civic meetings, and free programs such as after-school tutoring, English-language and citizenship instruction and career development. The groundbreaking ceremony included City of Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman, Las Vegas City Councilman Bob Coffin, and Clark County Commissioner Lawrence Weekly, as well as Nevada State Senator Moises Denis and East Las Vegas community member Serafin Calvo. The event was highlighted by the Presentation of Colors by Rancho High School Air Force JROTC Color Guard and performances by Walter Bracken, Robert Lunt, and Sunrise Acres Elementary Schools.

The East Las Vegas Library represents an important milestone in the history of the East Las Vegas community and will sit on a tree-lined, 8.5-acre parcel located on Bonanza Road and East 28th Street, Las Vegas, NV 89101. An estimated 71 percent of those living in the area are families with young parents and children.

Excalibur Hotel & Casino Launches “Ultimate 4-D Experience®” Attraction

The much-anticipated Ultimate 4-D Experience made its debut at Excalibur Hotel& Casino's Fun Dungeon entertainment portfolio on November 2. The special effects theater, created by SimEx-Iwerks Entertainment, the market leader in cinematic attractions specializing in 4-D Theaters, brings tp Las Vegas a quality, family-friendly experience featuring exclusive, blockbuster content that fully immerses and entertains guests.

The Ultimate 4-D Experience®, has opened with three fan favorite film shows, created in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products. OKTOBERFEST 2017 concluded on a high note at Hofbräuhaus Las Vegas with the final round of celebrity keg tappers. The stunning ladies of one of The Strip’s sexiest shows, FANTASY, brought some heat to the famous Las Vegas beer hall when they tapped the keg on Friday, Oct. 27.

Then, on Saturday, Oct. 28, the AUSTRALIAN BEE GEES, brought a taste of Saturday Night Fever to Hofbräuhaus with the final Oktoberfestbier keg tapping of 2017. Immediately after the keg tapping, the talented cast kept the crowd on their feet when they took over the stage and performed “To Love Somebody,” “Stayin’ Alive” and “You Should Be Dancing.”

THE VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS FOUNDATION DONATED ONE MILLION DOLLARS TO THE FRIENDS OF LAS VEGAS METROPOLITAN POLICE DEPARTMENT (LVMPD) FOUNDATION during their ninth game of the season on Friday, Oct. 27.

As part of its continued partnership, on October 28, AFFINITY GAMING DONATED $58,000 to the ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION at the WALK TO END ALZHEIMER'S. CEO Michael Silberling presented the check to Desert Southwest Chapter Executive Director Dan Lawler and Regional Director Kelli Kristo before cutting the ribbon at the start line with more than 70 Affinity Gaming employees walking. The gaming company has pledged to contribute more than $125,000 to the association in 2017 with more than $75,000 of that contribution staying in Southern Nevada.

On Monday, October 30, LAS VEGAS LIGHTS FOOTBALL CLUB unveiled A LOGO that is by the fans, for the fans and of the fans, with elements inspired by hundreds of fan submissions. The result is a logo unique in many ways, capturing the essence of the city that Lights FC will represent when it begins play in the United Soccer League (USL) in February 2018. Along with the logo unveil, Lights FC is announcing its season ticket pricing and benefits for the inaugural season, starting at just $200. Highlighting those benefits for the 2018 campaign, each season ticket purchased will come with a Lights FC jersey. Also, a limited number of T-shirts and hats featuring the new Lights FC logo is now available exclusively at the Z Boutique, located on the Zappos campus in Downtown Las Vegas (400 Stewart Ave.).

On Tuesday, Oct. 31, HYDE BELLAGIO took revelers under the big top for a night of amazing feats, miraculous marvels and sensational sights during its XIV: FREAKSHOW HALLOWEEN EXTRAVAGANZA. Guests donned costumes reminiscent of the golden age of circus and Hyde’s servers suited up as racy ringmasters, seductive lion tamers, sexy clowns and other sideshow acts. Additionally, partygoers were treated to stilt walkers, contortionists, unbelievable light shows and gravity-defying balancing acts throughout the night. DJ D-Miles kept the beats bumping from behind the turntables as guests danced to electrifying house music well into the early morning hours.

Wednesday night, November 1, as CARLOS SANTANA returned to the stage at the House Of Blues as Vegas for the first time since the One October tragedy, he met with some amazing residents that were affected by the shooting. From hospital personnel to survivors, Carlos spoke about the healing power of music. A new exhibit, SAMURAI: ARMOR FOM THE ANN AND GABRIEL BARBIER-MUELLER COLLECTION, featuring more than 50 objects that were used both for combat and ceremonial purposes, is now open at Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art (BGFA) through April 29, 2018.  The exhibit honors the culture, lifestyle and art of the samurai warrior through centuries of Japanese history. Intricate pieces such as lacquered metal helmets adorned with crests and delicate, detailed armor capable of protecting the samurai are on display. The exquisitely crafted pieces represent the evolution of the samurai warrior’s appearance and equipment spanning 600 years from the 14th-19th centuries. During this time period, Japanese society recognized the advancement of the samurai as a great honor: from skilled archers to an elite class of warriors respected for their military skills, refinement and intellect. The exhibit and pieces inside convey the complete story of the samurai, a part of the intellectual Japanese elite who not only fought in battle, but also practiced poetry and calligraphy.

BGFA is open daily 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Last admissions are sold 30 minutes prior to closing. Guests may enjoy complimentary daily docent tours at 2 p.m., and private docent tours are available at an additional cost. One of the most successful and critically acclaimed rock bands of all time –CHICAGO– recently announced its limited engagement at The Venetian Theatre inside The Venetian® Las Vegas. GALLERIA AT SUNSET has announced Friday, November 10 as the ARRIVAL DATE OF the star of the holiday season: SANTA CLAUS. The College of Southern Nevada Department of Fine Arts will host an EXHIBITION OF DRAWING, PINTING AND MIXED MEDIA ARTWORK by Béziers, France, artist and author Marianic Parra. EMERGE IMPACT + MUSIC CONFERENCE, a first-of-its-kind event committed to addressing social issues through new music and thought, has announced details of a ONE NIGHT CONCERT AT BROOKLYN BOWL LAS VEGAS TO BENEFIT THE LAS VEGAS VICTIMS' FUND. The event will take place Saturday, Nov. 18 and 100% of the proceeds from tickets sold will go directly to the fund created by by Clark County Commission Chair Steve Sisolak.
