Glittering Lights Kicks off 16th Year of Holiday Tradition at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

The evening's festivities included a magical Santa arrival with Celebrity Magician Murray and 'Lefty', a performance by Frankie Moreno, a countdown to turning on the lights with entertainers, dinner by Carrabba’s Italian Grill, and open-air tram rides through the lights with special presentation of the Living Nativity by United Methodist Churches.

The drive-thru light show features more than three million lights along a 2.5 - mile course that intertwines through the speedway.Among the holiday favorites is the debut of the Unwelcome Tunnel-A Tribute to How the Grinch Stole Christmas with a specialsurprise for our weekend guests, Yo Ho Ho Diggin’ for Gold: it’s a pirate-life with a two story pirate ship, an expanded Santa Safari tunnel, and more.

Now, visitors have two options on how they choose to experience Glittering Lights at Las Vegas Motor Speedway -  either by the carload or open-air tram rides. The all-new adventure Santa Tram, powered by AAA Nevada boards at Exotics Racing on select dates in December. This per-person ticket is only $35, and includes photos with Santa, games, a mini train ride, and toasty outdoor area.

Glittering Lights is open nightly at dusk. November 11 until January 7, 2017. Prices per car load: $20 Monday through Thursday, and $30 Friday-Sunday, holidays and  December 19-25.


Fremont Street Experience Presents American Heart Association a Check for $28,140 Raised at SlotZilla™ Charity Challenge

In honor of the 2016 Heart & Stroke Walk and Run, on Saturday, November 5 from 12 – 7 p.m., Fremont Street Experience hosted a SlotZilla Charity Challenge to benefit the American Heart Association. 100% of SlotZilla revenue from flights on the lower Zipline and upper Zoomline went to the American Heart Association. Fremont Street Experience’s Chief Marketing Officer, Paul McGuire, presented the American Heart Association a check for $28,140 on Monday, November 7. The American Heart Association sets a new record for the most amount of money raised at a SlotZilla Charity Challenge

“The American Heart Association Heart is a lifesaving organization that empowers and educates individuals on how to live healthier lives. The latest, new magic show to hit the Las Vegas strip, BAND OF MAGICIANS, starring four talented young magicians from across the globe, recently opened at the Tropicana. In honor of his loss on “America’s Got Talent” and Mr. Piffles’ 9th birthday, Sunday, November 13, 2016 was officially declared PIFF THE MAGIC DRAGON AND MR. PIFFLES DAY in the city of Las Vegas, by Mayor Carolyn Goodman. On Tuesday, Nov. 15, Uber officially launched uberPOOL in Las Vegas, enabling carpooling at the push of a button. Riders heading in the same direction will share a car and share the cost, making rides cheaper and cutting down congestion on city streets. The City of Henderson is encouraging residents to celebrate acts of kindness by participating in the COLOR ME KIND 5K. The event is at 9 a.m. on Saturday, November 19 at Cornerstone Park, 1600 Wigwam Pkwy. Registration starts at $25 per person.  The fun run, which does not have official times or winners, allows participants to share their kindness to fellow runners in a fun way. Individuals will be showered from head to toe in five different colors to create a kaleidoscope of kindness along Cornerstone Park Trail.

 The Color Me Kind 5K is part of the city’s overall “Be Kind” campaign. The city’s Parks and Recreation Department partnered with the Josh Stevens Foundation to launch the initiative in 2012. CHUTHIS, a nonprofit, project-based dance company showcasing the work of internationally renowned artistic director and choreographer PETER CHU and his collaborators, will premiere a new evening of dance this Friday and Saturday in three parts, appropriately titled “—in3s—.”  Combining contemporary, urban and theatrical dance with cutting edge lighting and sound elements, the works comprising “—in3s—” emphasize the rise and fall of a body influenced by the pull of tempo (i.e., gravity) and share an innate wisdom of the body and mind connection during movement. Enmeshed with striking imagery, the program explores the temporal nature of emotions during times of uncertainty and exposes the audience to unforgiving truths behind physical misunderstandings, inducing moments of bewilderment.  Performances will take place from 7 – 8:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, and from 2 – 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, in the 298-seat West Las Vegas Library Theater, 951 W. The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) will be hosting the inaugural LAS VEGAS SAXOPHONE DAY featuring the Capitol Quartet (Christopher Creviston, Joseph Lulloff, David Stambler, and Henning Schröder) on Saturday, November 19. This event is free. All events will be held on CSN’s North Las Vegas Campus. The Capitol Quartet (Christopher Creviston, Joseph Lulloff, David Stambler, and Henning Schröder) is widely considered among the most exciting chamber ensembles performing today. Comprised of saxophonists who are teaching faculty at outstanding music schools, the Capitol Quartet has captured the imagination of critics and audiences alike.

The Las Vegas Saxophone Day will consist of an evening concert, plus rehearsals and sectionals for the Las Vegas Saxophone Ensembles; master classes with student saxophone quartets from California State University – Long Beach, the University of Nevada – Las Vegas, and the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts; and breakout clinics to prepare middle and high school students for district honor band auditions, assist band directors in improving their saxophone sections, and help college music majors to plan for the future.

The evening pre-concert is free (general admission) and will commence at 6:30 p.m. in the Nicholas J. Horn Theatre. This concert will feature the Las Vegas Saxophone Ensembles, each with 70+ saxophonists, and Guest Conductors James Barrera (Adjunct Professor of Saxophone - California State University, Long Beach), John Seaton (Associate Director of Bands - Las Vegas Academy of the Arts), and Zachary Williams (Conductor - Las Vegas Youth Orchestras Symphonic Band).

The evening concert is free (general admission) and will commence at 7:00 p.m. in the Nicholas J. Horn Theatre. This concert will feature the Capitol Quartet performing classical and jazz works by Andrew Bishop, Claude Debussy, Duke Ellington, Evan Hause, and Iannis Xenakis. The Red Rock Saxophone Quartet (Lindsey O’Connor, Zachary Williams, Tyler Pawl, and Steven Moya) will join also join the Capitol Quartet onstage as Guest Artists for one special performance.

REO SPEEDWAGON will perform their legendary songs at The Orleans Showroom on Nov. 19-20. Showtime is at 8 p.m. each night. Aliante Casino + Hotel + Spa, a AAA Four Diamond Resort, will partner once again with the OPERATION WARMHEART Program to collect toys for the children of Nellis Air Force Base and Creech Air Force Base this holiday season from Monday, Nov. 21, through Monday, Dec. 12. THE CONTINENTAL TIRE LAS VEGAS INVITATIONAL, an annual action-packed NCAA basketball tournament, returns to the Orleans Arena Nov. 24 and 25.The field of competitors includes University of Arizona, Santa Clara University, Butler University, Vanderbilt University, University of Northern Colorado, Bucknell University, Norfolk State University and Sacred Heart University.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees THE O'JAYS will perform live in concert on Saturday, Nov. 26 at Star of the Desert Arena in Primm. Legendary wide receiver and reality TV star Terrell Owens was spotted at N9NE Steakhouse with a friend.

English actor Nick Hoult, best known for his role as War Boy Nux in Mad Max: Fury Road, also stopped by the iconic steakhouse to enjoy a meal with a friend. Actor Rob Lowe and his son John Owen Lowe were spotted at OMNIA Nightclub inside Caesars Palace. In town to celebrate his 21st birthday, John and his father arrived to the nightspot with a group that included actor Patrick Schwarzenegger, and were escorted to a VIP table in the Main Club where resident DJ Calvin Harris was performing his chart-topping hits.

Teddy Riley, founding member of the celebrated R&B group Blackstreet, was spotted attending the 10 p.m. performance of the hit show ABSINTHE at Caesars Palace. Afterwards, the singer-songwriter met with The Gazillionaire, his raucous assistant Joy Jenkins, ABSINTHE's "Green Fairy" Melody Sweets and tap dancing duo Sean & John.

Legendary rocker Steven Tyler of Aerosmith attended Michael Jackson ONE at Mandalay Bay with his girlfriend and a group of friends.  After the explosive show, Tyler and friends were escorted backstage for a private meet and greet with the cast of ONE.  Also in attendance was entertainer Teller from Penn & Teller.
