The Bronx Wanderers Open at Bally's Las Vegas

Bronx born record producer Vinny Adinolfi says he has always dreamed of being a Las Vegas entertainer.  After performing for sold out audiences around the country as the front man and lead singer of The Bronx Wanderers, his dream has come true with the Grand Opening celebration of The Bronx Wanderers' new show at Bally’s Las Vegas on Saturday evening, October 15.

Joining Vinny on stage are his talented sons, musicians and singers Vinny Jr. and Nicky and their fantastic back up band who deliver an highly entertaining evening of chart topping hits from pop icons.  For 90 minutes, audiences are taken back to another era from the beginning of rock and roll when the doo wop sound was the signature of a generation, and up to the present, with The Bronx Wanderers performing songs made famous by such artists that inspired Vinny, including Dion, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons,  Elvis, Billy Joel, The Beach Boys, Queen and contemporary superstar Bruno Mars. That said, The Bronx Wanderers are a top notch band, complete with great vocals, showmanship and renditions of old hits that hit the mark in such a way that audiences can't help but sing along, clap, and get up on their feet dancing.

Team Elton took the lead in the first set of the night and never looked back en route to their second consecutive victory and an overall 13-11 series lead. Sharapova and 16-year-old junior Taylor Johnson teamed up in Sharapova’s return to the court but it was the veteran doubles experience of Martina Navratilova and Liezel Huber that took the first set for Team Elton, 5-2.

Former U.S. Davis Cup teammates Andy Roddick and Mardy Fish were too strong for Team Billie Jean’s duo of John McEnroe and Mark Philippoussis in men’s doubles, winning the second set for Team Elton 5-3.

McEnroe and Sharapova rallied in mixed doubles, winning the first set of the night for Team Billie Jean with a 5-3 victory over Roddick and Navratilova and sending the match into Extended Play. Team Billie Jean won the first game in Extended Play but Roddick and Navratilova closed out the set and match by winning the next game for Team Elton.

The evening started with all the players participating in a live auction that raised more than $150,000 of the evening’s totals. The players were active bidders in the auction, with Sharapova winning a ticket package for the Broadway hit “Hamilton” and John McEnroe buying an autographed Elton John piano bench.

The stars were out in Las Vegas on Monday night to support WTT Smash Hits as avid tennis fans and Las Vegas residents Gladys Knight and Mike Tyson took in the action on the multi-colored tennis court just steps away from where Elton John plays his hit show, “The Million Dollar Piano” at Caesars Palace. California Grandmother Soars Into History as SlotZilla’s Month of the Millionth Flyer Grand Prize Winner

On Wednesday, Sept. 28, SlotZilla™, one of the world’s most unique zipline attractions located in Downtown Las Vegas at Fremont Street Experience, hosted the culmination of its Month of the Millionth Flyer celebration by giving away $1,000 each to 10 lucky flyers including one grand-prize winner, Pamella Siegel who is from the Sacramento area. Siegel was in town celebrating her 65th birthday with her daughter, Heather Wagy, and granddaughter Emilie Wagy, who also celebrated her 21st birthday two days prior – making it the ultimate multigenerational bucket list experience.

A special ceremony to celebrate the Month of the Millionth Flyer grand-prize winner was held on Fremont Street Experience’s 3rd Street Stage. Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman and Patrick Hughes, CEO and president of Fremont Street Experience, awarded the grand-prize winner with a $1,000 prize, a one-year SlotZilla flight pass, a commemorative plaque, plus a special congratulatory certificate from the Mayor. Additionally, the Mayor proclaimed Wednesday September 28th Month of the Millionth Flyer Day in Las Vegas. Nine other lucky flyers were awarded a $1,000 prize throughout the day, totaling one million pennies ($10,000) between all 10 winners.

Additional recent and upcoming “happenings” in and around Las Vegas include:

BENIHANA, the nation’s leading operator of Japanese theme and sushi restaurants, recently opened its newest location at Fashion Show mall, in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip. The new 7,600 square‐foot‐restaurant features a sushi bar, cocktail lounge, outdoor patio and dining area. Guests looking for the world‐famous Benihana experience can dine at one of 18 teppanyaki tables, or for a more casual atmosphere, guests can watch sushi chefs at one of four sushi bar tables. Those who want to keep an eye on the bustling Las Vegas Strip, guests can enjoy fresh sushi options or a colorful cocktail on the patio, which includes 12 tables, or at the bar, which is open to the Strip.  Larger groups are easily accommodated, with two teppanyaki tables seating parties of 12 and a sushi area community table fitting a group of 10. The restaurant is also the perfect place for a special event or party, as it offers two semi‐private dining rooms, where guests can enjoy the teppanyaki show in their own space.

During my recent visit to the new location, I was pleased to find out that when it comes to dietary restrictions for guests who are gluten free or vegetarian, several options are on the menu to please even the most sensitive palate. There are entrees which consist of a five or six course meal and there is no additional charge to replace an item with a gluten free or meatless dish.  For instance, my husband ordered a tofu entree and instead of the onion soup which is made with chicken broth, he had the miso soup that was delicious and salted just right. Not an eater of red meat, I ordered the hibachi chicken breast with mushroom and sesame seeds which was tender and also very scrumptious, as was every course including the soup, shrimp appetizer, benihana salad, hibachi vegetables, a side of steamed rice and homemade dipping sauces.  It was nice to know that gluten free soy sauce is also available for those who want to add some additional flavoring. One thing is certain, whatever guests choose from the menu, Benihana is sure to make your dining experience one that will delight your senses, leave you satisfied and wanting to come back for more.

You can read more about Benihana's new location and dining experience at the Fashion Show Mall in this week's edition of Jacqueline Monahan's column “About the Town”.
