ROCK OF AGES Celebrates Grand Opening at The Venetian Las Vegas

After a month of preview performances, the LasVegas edition of the sensational Broadway musical, "Rock of Ages”, held its official Grand Opening on Saturday, January 5 at The Venetian.

The production is a hilarious, feel-good love story that celebrates the great rock songs of the ‘80s from bands such as Poison, White Snake, Styx, Journey and others.  Hits such as "Here I Go Again,” "Don't Stop Believin’," “We Built This City,” “Wanted Dead or Alive” and more are woven throughout the show and guaranteed to have audiences singing and dancing along.

I attended the pre-show reception at the Bourbon Room and media night performance on Friday, January 4 and can attest that Rock of Ages rocks the house as a lively and fun production.  Kudos to the creative team and the entire talented and enthusiast cast of top notch singers and dancers for delivering the goods.

Set in 1987, the musical follows Sherrie,  a small town girl from Kansas and Drew, a city boy from Detroit who meet on Hollywood's Sunset Strip while pursuing their dreams of stardom.  He wants to be a rock star and she longs to make it as an actress.  Romance and conflict ensure as both try to make ends meet while working at the The Bourbon Room, a struggling concert and bar venue that is threatened of being torn down to make way for a mall by a German real estate developer.

On Saturday night the high-energy performance had the crowd rockin’ out all night long with the audience waving hundreds of LED lighters in the air during the heartfelt ballads and singing and dancing on their feet during the finale. Director Kristin Hanggi and Choreographer Kelly Devine were also in the theater and at curtain call they joined the cast on stage to celebrate opening night. The talented cast includes Kyle Lowder as Stacee Jaxx, Carrie St. Louis as Sherrie, Justin Mortelliti as Drew, Mark Shunock as Lonny, Troy Burgess as Dennis, and Robert Torti as Hertz.
