On Saturday, September 13, Chippendales The Show dancer Jim Wilcox and former Cirque du Soleil headliner Susie entertained guests at their wedding reception which took place in The Spirit of America Room at Madame Tussauds Las Vegas at The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino.  The internationally famed wax museum was a uniquely exciting venue for the happy couple to celebrate the first few hours of their new union.

As Jim and Susie entered the appropriately decorated Spirit of America Room, they seamlessly stepped into a first dance, with plenty of opportunity for photo and video captures by invited media, family and friends.  Their actual wedding had taken place previously at the Hard Rock Café, where the bride currently performs.  Both come from military backgrounds.  Talk about movers and shakers – that sums it up for this entertaining twosome.

White tablecloths dressed several round tables atop which perched tall flower arrangements. A chef’s station had been set up against one wall, with a long table of colorful gourmet treats attractively displayed upon its entire length. At the point of this punctuation mark was the very, very Vegas wedding cake, decorated like a cross between a whimsical multi-colored card game and the latest chapeau favored by Lewis Carroll’s Mad Hatter.

The reception was attended by a host of dancers from Chippendales The Show, Cirque du Soleil, Hard Rock Café, and your humble correspondent, always a sucker for a wedding dress, in this case, an elegant silk column gown with 3 foot train worn by the diminutive bride. She held a dramatic bouquet of deep red roses intertwined with a silver chain. The groom’s spiky red hair made him a standout among his fellow dancers. He may very well be the only redheaded Chippendales dancer in the bunch.

Bridesmaids wore simple black strapless gowns with dazzling crystal necklaces, more like tiaras for their throats. Groomsmen were attired in basic black tuxedos with white rose boutonnières. Did I mention that they were all Chippendales dancers? Those guys in tuxes really illustrate what the phrase “gilding the lily” means. It’s a wonder that the surrounding wax figures didn’t melt with all that assembled heat.

Needless to say, the percentage of attractive people in the room soared past the national average. Even fully dressed, you can spot a Chippendales dancer, and many female performers in Las Vegas could be said to stand out way ahead of the crowd, at least in silhouette.

Most of the figures that call The Spirit of America Room home had been relocated for the occasion. Only Jennifer Lopez, Neil Armstrong, Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin, and the King himself, quintessential Las Vegas performer Elvis Presley remained behind to bestow good wishes on behalf of the museum’s legion of resident stars and entertainers.

Guests were treated to a tour of the museum, after which hors d’oeuvres and desserts were served, overseen by the resident chef, who would prepare your chosen delicacy right before your eyes with an expert flair. Even this lovely display could not visually compete with the sight of Jim and Susie flanking their cake, eyes fixed on each other as if not believing their good luck in a town built on the very dream of it.

And so romance blossomed at Madame Tussauds on a Saturday afternoon in September with Elvis and J-Lo in attendance. Right outside the room stood an unofficial but decidedly exuberant receiving line comprised of Sammy Davis Jr., Debbie Reynolds, Judy Garland and Mel Torme’. It just doesn’t get any more Vegas than that.
