Epic Poker League Play Underway at Palms
The third stop of Epic Poker League’s Inaugural Season began December 10 at Palms Casino Resort with the Pro/Am event leading the way. All of the players currently positioned in the top 10 spots in the Global Poker Index (GPI) including Erik Seidel, Jason Mercier, Sam Trickett, and Fabrice Soulier will be in attendance at the Main Event on Dec. 14 and will battle to maintain their status against an elite pool of the best poker players in the world. The event runs through December 18.
The events will be rake-free for poker professionals and feature generous prize pool overlays. All events will take place at the Palms Casino Resort and will air on CBS. The Epic Poker League is actually a series of poker tournaments that began in 2011. Former WSOP commissioner Jeffrey Pollack is the Executive Chairman, Matt Savage is the Tournament Director and professional poker player Annie Duke is the Commissioner.
Commissioner Annie Duke Explains the Epic Poker League
The League is exclusionary in that it is only open to poker players who have met certain qualification criteria for multi-million dollar lifetime earnings, multiple wins and/or cashes at high level tournaments. Amateurs and non-league members can qualify for the main event tourneys by winning in satellite tourneys. The league held its charity event designed to help support cancer research on December 12. The two day affair was hosted by poker star Phil Gordon.

The event drew 77 participants and raised $48,000 for Bad Beat on Cancer. Marisa Chien won the tourney, knocking out such poker notables as Annie Duke.
