It was a win-win for audience members and a local charity when South Point Hotel & Casino teamed up with KJUL 104.7 to host a Holiday Appreciation Concert on December 17. Tickets were free to those who brought a non-perishable food item to the South Point Box office in the days prior to the show to get their first-come first-serve tickets. I was told that most people seeking tickets brought in more than the one item needed for a ticket. By show day, the 404 tickets were all taken. That literally left some folks holding the bag - the bag of food items that is. Most of them left disappointed, but most also left the donations anyway. This year 677 pounds of food was collected, the equivalent of 528 meals.
Entertainers Leah Zimmerman and Dominick Allen were joined on stage by their daughter fourth grader Cayleigh who is the next generation of talented singer. This young girl brought the house down with her rendition of “No Small Miracle” written by her father.
Who else but the versatile Tom Stevens could successfully impersonate both Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. And Jack Nicholson and Carol Channing and Jackie Mason and Bill Cosby ….
Lionardo and his piano follies was a crowd pleaser.
The Turning Point Trio added their voices to the evening with “Light One Candle” a beautiful song first done by Peter Paul and Mary in 1983.
Conductor Vince Falcone worked his magic on the ivories.
Clint Holmes and his lovely wife Kelly Clinton performed both separately and together.
Others who lent their talents and time to the event included ed The Swing City Dolls, Dennis Wise, and Scott Gentry.
