The highly celebrated Pasadena,California based Dog Haus recently opened its first Las Vegas location at 4480 Paradise Rd across from The Hard Rock Resort and Casino. Dog Haus is known in California for its gourmet hot dogs, sausages, and burgers. My spouse and I visited the restaurant to sample some of the food.

Adam Roll Dog Haus

We spoke with Adam Roll, one of the franchise owners about the location. He believes that many UNLV students will find their way to the eatery and projections are that local residents and folks from the nearby Hard Rock will be checking them out as well.

The menu offers seven different all beef skinless hot dog combinations ($6.99). I didn't even read the rest of the menu once the first item caught my eye. I ordered the “Sooo Cali Dog” which contains wild arugula, crispy onions, spicy basil aioli, avocado, and tomato.

It was unique, tangy, spicy, and tasty. Reading the menu is a treat as the signature all beef skinless dogs have names like “Downtown Dog” (smoke bacon wrapped dog, caramelized onions, mayo, pickled red peppers, mustard and ketchup) and “Free Bird” consisting of a turkey dog, avocado, bacon, ranch, and tomato. Other turkey dogs are available upon request.

The sausages are hand crafted, come in a variety of types, and continue the practice of having colorful names. My husband chowed down on and enjoyed a concoction called Another Night in Bangkok

It included of a spicy Thai “currywurst”, haus slaw, peanut sauce, and crushed peanuts. When we visited Thailand last year, we learned that peanuts are an essential part of Thai cooking, making the sausage authentic. Six other sausage concoctions are offered. ($7.99)

The haus burgers are made from a propriety grind of chuck and brisket beef. The burgers come in seven different combinations ($7.99). Veggie burgers are also available.

Dog Haus offers a variety of sides including tater totes and chili to compliment the traditional and tasty french fries and onion rings.

The restaurant also offers sliders and gives customers the opportunity to build their own dog or burger combinations from a wide variety of toppings.

Since it is Vegas, Dog Haus has speciality cocktails, a variety of craft beers on tap, and red or white wine. It even offers spiked milk shakes, listed on the menu as “boozy milkshakes for adults”. Although I'm not a drinker, I did take a taste and can report the existence of ingredients that most shakes don't have.

And again, it is Las Vegas so Happy Hour runs from 3 to 6 PM and 1 to 4 AM The 2,500 square foot restaurant is an interesting place to stop, Keep in mind that after a long night on the Vegas Strip this offers a late night option as it is open from 11 AM until 4 AM. Find more information at or call 702-435-HAUS.

Human Nature Jukebox is Hit at Venetian

Human Nature - four guys from Australia who topped the charts there - brought their talent to Las Vegas seven years ago and received rave reviews for their Motown show. Now, they have revamped their act into Jukebox – a high energy, hit-filled musical trip down memory lane. They've gone to the past to find songs for this show including the lyrics, “Will you still love me tomorrow”? Yes - Las Vegas will love Jukebox for many tomorrows.

The group has been together 25 years, starting in high school and growing into Australia's top selling pop vocal group and have had 70 Top 40 hits and five Top 10 hits on the Australian pop charts. If the audience reaction at the official opening of their new show in April in the Venetian's Sands Showroom was any indication, there is a long run ahead for this show. The music and songs will be familiar to senior citizens and younger fans as well. They sang, “Gimme Some Lovin' “ and the audience did with enthusiastic applause throughout the show. >From the get-go, it was clear that this was a feel good fun show filled with the talents of these guys.

Toby Allen, Phil Burton and Brothers Andrew and Michael Tierney bring back songs from the 50's, 60's 70's and forward. Starting with some classics from the Do-Wop era, the four take their audience through Rock n Roll, Pop, Motown and Soul standards right through to uptown Funk. I bet that not “Only You” remembers“Stand By Me” and didn't we all “Twist Again.”

From “YMCA” to Frank Sinatra's hit, “The Lady is a Tramp” and on to “My Girl” the most frequently played song in the world, Human Nature wows the audience with their distinctive harmonies. Jukebox includes music by the Beatles and the Jacksons and of course a good dose of Motown hits. It was obvious that many audience members were ready to “Dance To The Music” in the aisles.

Speaking of dancing, the choreography is superb, just as it was in the Motown show. To me, this is part of the magic formula of Human Nature. The voices, the guys' choreography as they harmonize, the outfits, and the attitude and attention to detail add up to the sum total of a world class pop vocal group that has only improved over the years.

The onstage screens are used to great advantage with photos of the younger versions of the guys and great graphics to enhance the action.

The seven piece band, The Jukebox Allstars, do a first class job and seem to genuinely enjoy themselves as they not only play their instruments but physically groove to the music, at times joining the well crafted choreography. Dancers Jami Jones and David Oliveri (of Le Reve fame) add new positive dimensions to the show as they supplement the singing or provide an interlude that allows the four to - yet again - change their outfits. (seven costume changes).

I recommend a trip to the Venetian where you can enjoy Human Nature Jukebox – pop, soul, Motown, and more on Tuesday through Saturdays at 7 p.m. in the Sands Showroom. Tickets  start at $49.50 + taxes and fees and VIP options are available. Tickets can be purchased at any Venetian or Palazzo box office or by calling 702-414-9000 or 866-641-7469. The 42nd UNLVino – Three Nights Of Endless Libations And High Quality Food

Bubble-Licious Under The Stars At The The Venetian Doge Palace April 14

For three consecutive nights (April 14-16, 2016), visitors and locals in Las Vegas tasted a seemingly endless supply of liquid libations and accompanying food samples while supporting students at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). The funds raised are earmarked for students enrolled in the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration.

Those students were involved in all levels of planning, executing and promoting UNLVino 2016 and receive course credit for their participation. Take a Sip for Scholarship is the slogan of the event.

UNLVino was cofounded in 1974 by the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration and Southern Wine & Spirits of Nevada, and the two organizations continue to sponsor it. Over the past four decades, UNLVino has raised several million dollars for scholarships and other academic developmental needs of UNLV students.

The three different locations on three consecutive nights- The Venetian, Red Rock Resort and Casino, and Paris Las Vegas – give the locations the opportunity to showcase their eateries and give guests the chance to sample a wide variety of foods over the course of the three events or to zero in on their geographic or culinary favorite.

Bubble-Licious opened the weekend under the stars at the The Venetian Doge Palace. It featured an extensive variety of sparkling wines, champagnes, and champagne cocktails as well as small plates from many of the restaurants at The Venetian and Palazzo Hotels. I tried to sample the fares of all the restaurants, but gave my spouse the honor of sampling the beverages.
