The Double Helix Wine and Whiskey Bar at Town Square celebrated its third anniversary on June 19, 2014 with a special reception.

 Invited guests were treated to wine, signature cocktails, freshly grilled carne asada, and chicken tacos as well as alcohol infused snow cones.

The 2,800 square foot lounge is located adjacent to the AMC movie theaters in Town Square Center on the far south end of The Strip.  It features over 40 unique wines, 100 whiskey labels, signature cocktails, and an extensive small plate menu.

The diverse menu, developed by Chef Doug Vega, includes meatballs, a variety of sliders, seared yellow fin tuna and a variety of gluten free items, many for under $16. Chef Doug Vega, whose previous experience includes Daniel Boulud's DB Brasserie, has created a menu with gourmet comfort food to complement the wine and spirits.

Signature cocktails include the Sangria Martina which consists of red wine, Orange vodka, blackberry brandy, apple pucker and secret spice. There are several other interesting and tasty concoctions on the menu.

Owner Ray Nisi and his wife Jessica displayed the proclamation sent by Las Vegas Mayor Crolyn Goodman declaring June 19th to be Double Helix Wine & Whiskey Lounge Day.    

Many customers choose to relax with a whiskey or brandy in the pet and cigar friendly outdoor patio.  The patio contains a cooling mister system and a beautiful fire pit-conducive for conversation.

The Double Helix features a liquid brunch from 11 AM till 3 PM every Saturday and Sunday.  It features almost bottomless mimosas and Bloody Marys as well as Happy Hour pricing on cocktails and wine.  Spanish omelets and steak and eggs are the featured dishes.

Happy Hours run from 3:30 -7:30 PM weekdays and 11:00AM -7:30 PM weekends and are a great time to visit Double Helix.  During Happy Hours, wine is $7 a glass or less, while signature cocktails are $10 or less.  Most food items are under $10.

Daniel Colman Wins Big One for One Drop at World Series of Poker 

Daniel Colman, a 23 year old pro, won the World Series of Poker WSOP’s Big One for One Drop tournament and $15.3 million dollars on July 1, 2014 before a packed crowd at the Rio Hotel and Casino.  He was victorious over well known pro Daniel Negreanu who captured the second place prize of  $8.3 million.   Negreanu is now the all-time money earner in the world of poker with over $40 million in career tournament winnings.

This year’s $1 million Big One for One Drop event drew 42 participants, generating a prize pool of $37.3 million. Participants paid one million dollars each to have a chance for the big prize. The One Drop Charity raised $4.6 million since 11% of the entry fees were given to one drop. One drop is a non profit organization started in 2007  by Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte.  Its mission is to assure that potable water is available to all peoples throughout the world.

What was the Inspiration for the Copperfield Slot Machine

LVRTC Columnist Dianne Davis spoke to Gregg Giuffria, CEO/President of G2 Game Design about the new David Copperfield slot machines. Mr. Giuffria explained how the idea came to him. G2 Game Design works with Ballys to develop games and concepts and slot machines.
