Wednesday, July 20, 2011, gave an entirely new meaning to “Hump Day” when legendary singer Engelbert Humperdinck received both the Key to the City of Las Vegas and a star on the Las Vegas Walk of Stars, the latter in front of Paris Las Vegas, where he was appearing.

The giving of the Key to the City is a rare event, bestowed on very few and what made this even more unique was that it was the first key given by Las Vegas’ new mayor, Caroline Goodman. Added to that was the fact that the international superstar received the honor at City Hall in front of all the legislators, something that is almost never done.

After the ceremony, Engelbert made his way to the showroom at Paris Las Vegas, where invited-only family, friends, celebrities VIP guests and press attended the presentation of his star, which was interred in the sidewalk outside of Paris’Mon Ami Gabi restaurant the next morning at 6 a.m. Engelbert then went on to present four nights of stunning performances at the hotel, his beautiful, powerful voice; dynamic entertainment ability, and handsome persona captivating the screaming, cheering cross-generational crowds that filled the 1,500-seat theater. Perhaps one of the rarest occurrences of all is the audience reaction at an Engelbert performance, which one truly has to see to believe.

As a couple of observers were overheard remarking, “He is still so HOT.”
