Stars Celebrate Tony Bennett's 90th Birthday at Keep Memory Alive's 20th Annual Power of Love Gala

On Saturday, May 21, some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry celebrated the 90th birthday of the legendary Tony Bennett at Keep Memory Alive’s 20th annual Power of Love® gala at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The star-studded event raised funds and awareness for Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health and its fight against brain disease including Alzheimer's, Huntington's and Parkinson's diseases, multiple sclerosis and multiple system atrophy.

Highlights from the night included a performance by honoree Tony Bennett and heartfelt tributes by Andra Day, Darius Rucker, Herbie Hancock, James Corden, Jordin Sparks, Steven Tyler and more. Day kicked off the show with her rendition of “Steppin’ Out With My Baby,” while Corden performed his version of “Don’t Get Around Much More.” Later in the evening, Sparks teamed up with pianist Dan Orlando to perform a medley of hits including “The Best Is Yet To Come,” “Alright OK You Win” and “It Don’t Mean A Thing.” Rucker treated guests to hit single “Sunny Side of The Street,” before Hancock took the stage to perform “Chameleon” and “Cantaloupe Island.” Tyler joined the elite ensemble to perform “Smile” with jazz trumpeter Chris Botti and Aerosmith classic “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing.” The man of the evening, Bennett, performed numerous hits including “Watch What Happens” and “How Do You Keep The Music Playing.” To close the show, the entire cast sang Bennett “Happy Birthday” and presented him with a celebratory cake. In addition to musical icons, celebrity supporters who also attended the event included Quincy Jones, Brad Garrett, Steve Schirripa and Chaz Palminteri.

Tony Bennett is also a gifted visual artist with three of his paintings in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institution. To acknowledge this aspect of Bennett's artistry, a variety of world-renowned painters, sculptors and other artists joined to celebrate and were recognized during a special presentation narrated by Academy Award, Golden Globe and Emmy nominee Minnie Driver, which was accompanied by an original score from former Wings guitarist Laurence Juber. Artists honored included: President and Founder of Cultural Counsel Adam Abdalla; Golden Lion Award-winning artist Marina Abramović; American artist and glass sculptor Dale Chihuly; President and CEO of Chihuly Studio and Chihuly Workshop Leslie Jackson Chihuly; American pop and conceptualism artist Jonathan Horowitz; Governor’s Award-winning artist and sculptor Jeff Koons; American post-conceptual artist Rob Pruitt; legendary New York artist Peter Tunney; and curator, creative director; screen writer Petter Skavlan; and writer Neville Wakefield.
 
Continuing its 20-year history, the Power of Love gala showcased a dinner prepared by superstar chefs Mario Carbone, Nobu Matsuhisa and Wolfgang Puck, who has participated in every gala since its inception. In addition to enjoying the finest cuisine, wine and spirits, guests bid on one-of-a-kind experiences during a live and silent auction. Items auctioned include a seven-day Italian vacation in Florence and Venice with world-famous tenor Andrea Bocelli as a tour guide, an original piece titled “The GOOD LIFE” from artist Peter Tunney and a personal culinary tour of Jean‐Georges Vongerichten’s eight New York City restaurants.

The venue is expected to serve upward of one million guests in its first year of operation and has already created more than 850 full- and part-time positions. It operates Sunday to Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 a.m. Bay pricing starts at $30 per hour for up to six players and varies depending on bay location and time of day. On Monday afternoon, May 16, House of Blues headliner CARLOS SANTANA and the team from House of Blues visited the Las Vegas Rescue Mission to serve the residents a soulful meal straight from the culinary team at House of Blues. Santana and team also  held a water drive and provided 8,400 bottles of water for the homeless community that Las Vegas Rescue Mission provides for each day. Additionally, the group donated more than 500 refillable pouches that the homeless can use to refill with water throughout the Vegas summer. Director of Program Services, John Fogal, took Santana on a tour through the Mission’s onsite dorms where they house around 120-150 residents that are working hard to get back to normal lives by getting help with addiction, education and job placement.

BURGER LOUNGE, an eco-conscious burger chain from Southern California, opened its first Las Vegas location at ARIA on Sunday, May 15. On Sunday, May 22, CCCN medical oncologist Karen Jacks, MD took part in Wet‘n’Wild’s summer storytime series, reading the story “George the Sun Safe Superstar” to park guests at 11:30 a.m.  inside the park’s Paradise Falls children’s area. On Friday morning, May 20,  THE ROGERS FOUNDATION -- which transforms lives through arts and education in Southern Nevada -- awarded $300,000 to four local programs after a competitive review process. The 2016 recipients were all visited by leaders of The Rogers Foundation and presented with checks to commemorate the occasion. Grant winners include: Future Smiles ($100,000), Springs Preserve ($100,000), Grant Sawyer Middle School ($38,500) and Desert Pines High School ($61,500).

Chart-topping celebrities took over the dazzling rooftop venue Drai’s Nightclub at The Cromwell in Las Vegas for the “2016 Billboard Music Awards” official after party. Headlined by BBMA host and GRAMMY Award-winning artist, Ludacris and Drai’s LIVE resident 50 Cent, the all-night party featured surprise performances by some of the biggest names in music and appearances by celebrated pop culture stars.

The after party kicked off at 10 p.m. with red carpet appearances by GRAMMY-winner Meghan Trainor, Fifth Harmony member Ally Brooke, Ludacris and others, leading into a fun-filled bash featuring BBMA presenters, performers and more.

Following his high-energy set, Ludacris introduced co-headliner 50 Cent who took the stage. Amidst performing hits like “What Up Gangsta,” “I Get Money” and other chart-toppers, 50 surprised the audience by inviting world-renowned boxer Floyd Mayweather to the stage.

But the surprises didn’t stop there! Rappers Wiz Khalifa and Ty Dolla $ign, who were spotted enjoying the evening’s performances from their VIP booth, were called to the stage for an unforgettable impromptu jam session alongside 50 and Ludacris. The Taylor Gang members hyped  the audience with songs like “Saved,” “Blasé,” “Taylor Gang” and more.

Later in the night when reality phenoms Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian, who were seated with Drai’s Las Vegas owner Victor Drai, took the stage for a surprise appearance with 50.

In town for the BBMAs, legendary rock star Steven Tyler was spotted at Mystere by Cirque du Soleil on following his explosive performance at the event. Following the performance, Tyler took photos with the cast and crew including Bruce Rickerd, one of the musicians that have never missed a show.

Recording artist Drake hit some balls from the Chairman’s Suite at Topgolf Las Vegas, the newly opened entertainment complex(same luxury suite Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton held court in the night before), while Lil’ Jon hung out in the Owner’s Box and Juicy J took advantage of the poolside bungalows on the top floor.

Grammy-Award winning songstress Meghan Trainor and Billboard nominated singer and songwriter Kesha were spotted at Kumi Japanese Restaurant and Bar in the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

Saturday night, May 21...

Grammy Award-winning singer Meghan Trainor enjoyed an evening at  Michael Jackson ONE by Cirque du Soleil. The artist was joined by her two brothers who enjoyed the show in the theater’s exclusive Golden Circle seating area.

 Lovebirds Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton spent hours at the newly opened Topgolf playing with friends in the flagship location’s Chairman’s Suite – a super-VIP room on the top floor decked out with its own private bar, bathroom and hitting bays.
E! News host Jason Kennedy was spotted at TAO Asian Bistro in The Venetian with a friend.

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was also seen having dinner at TAO.

Over at the recently opened Beauty & Essex in The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas singer Halsey was spotted enjoying dessert.

Also at Beauty & Essex was “Orange is the New Black” star Laverne Cox.

Actor and comedian Jonathan Kite celebrated a friend’s bachelor party at Hyde Bellagio as DJ Jace One kept the beats bumping from behind the turntables.

Sunday, May 15...

In town to rehearse for his upcoming role in the show “BAZ”, Jonathan Bennett, best known for his role in “Mean Girls” and as the host of “Cupcake Wars”, was spotted at LAVO in The Palazzo enjoying brunch with family and friends.

At night, during the grand opening weekend of TAO Group and chef Chris Santos' Beauty & Essex at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Norwegian DJ, songwriter and producer Kygo launched his KYGO Cloud Nine “S’mores” dessert now featured on the restaurant’s menu. In honor of the opening and the introduction of the dessert, Kygo surprised a room full of invited guests with an intimate acoustic performance on a grand piano that was placed in the middle of the dining room. After wowing the crowd, Kygo enjoyed his dessert with Fifth Harmony’s Camila Cabello who joined the DJ at his table.

Super Bowl champion and Baltimore Ravens outside linebacker, Terrell Suggs, was joined by retired nine-year NBA veteran Jerome “Junk Yard Dog” Williams; former 14-year NBA player and current Fox Sports analyst, Corey Maggette; former first round NBA selection, Josh Childress; and former Harlem Globetrotter and UNLV Runnin’ Rebel, Warren Rosegreen.
