Penthouse
Club Offers a Good Time for Men -- or Women
The fact that we had attended the opening of the Penthouse Club in Las
Vegas did not stop my spouse Burt from suggesting that we accept an
invitation to return to visit the club again. I guess he wanted another
opportunity to check out the 46,ooo square feet of entertainment space.

As luck would have it, Erica Ellyson, the 2008 Penthouse Pet of the
Year, stopped by while we were there. So Burt left that night with an
autographed copy of Penthouse Magazine featuring Erica’s Pet of the Year
pictorial.
There were some lucky members of a bachelor party who went home to
Olympia, Washington with souvenir photos with Erica. I had a chance to
chat with this lovely poised young woman who is originally from
Pascagoula, Mississippi. She is looking forward to traveling and meeting
different people during her reign. Erica was chosen by magazine readers,
staff members, and online subscribers alike. She eventually hopes to
establish a career in architecture, but in the short run is considering
a move to Las Vegas.
I checked back with the bachelors a little later in the evening and they
told me that were having a great time. Dezzie, one of the bartenders in
the VIP section of the club said that they have bachelor parties in the
club every night. Often, one of the many dancers continually
entertaining guests will bring a bachelor up on stage.

Greg Lioce, the General Manager told me that the nightly crowd also
includes a steady stream of women. “We’re more of the new era,” he said.
They stress service for the guests and when I mentioned the many big
burly guys, I was told they are called “hosts”, not bouncers.
I also stopped in at the Penthouse Boutique and visited with Doris. She
said that the dancers purchase items there, and in addition, the guests
often take the dancers in to pick out something they want to see the
women wear when they dance. Or remove as they dance. Many of the men buy
lingerie for their ladies or select something from the jewelry available
for purchase. Doris also said that souvenir Penthouse tank tops and
shirts are a big seller. And the women who visit have a chance to browse
through the large selection of battery operated adult toys.
Located at 3525 Russell Road, one block west of the I 15, a block off
the south end of the Strip behind the Mandalay Bay hotel and casino. The
club occupies the space formerly used by Sin. The club features a
sumptuous décor, a discreet VIP entrance, Penthouse Key Girls and a
delicious array of food, snacks, and drinks. In addition, this club
features the R U 702 “Locals Only” Lounge where only locals can gain
access through an exclusive membership.

South
Point Tops Off Final Tower - Michael Gaughan Pleased With Progress
Michael Gaughan threw a party on March 12, but it wasn’t for his
customers at South Point Hotel and Casino. The hotel owner provided a
picnic lunch for the 800 workers who have been laboring on the new 25
story tower which will include an additional 800 guest rooms and suites.
Workers also received commemorative Tee shirts to mark the occasion. It
speaks well for the hotel mogul that many of these workers have helped
to erect his past projects in the area.
An evergreen tree was hoisted to the top of this new tower to signify
the safe and successful completion of the concrete structure. Michael
Gaughan and Paul Gilette of Tito Tiberti Construction posed for photos
with the tree once it reached the top. Gaughan told me that he did this
for the first time when he topped off the construction at the Barbary
Coast, “on the seventh floor”.
The construction is now more than half way to the completion which is
expected this July. According to Gaughn, “This will make South Point the
largest locals hotel in the Valley with more than 2,150 rooms and suites
and 160,000 square feet of meeting and convention space.
Still available for expansion are 60,000 square feet of casino space
that has not been completed. It is currently a dirt floor and located on
the first floor of the South end of the building. Plans for the space
include additional restaurants and a state-of-the-art poker room. The
rest of the space is still in the planning stages. One thing is sure, “I
am always looking for what the customers want,” Gaughan said.
Gaughan seemed so relaxed that I couldn’t help asking him if he’s having
fun. “Yes”, he said, Having one place is a great time.” He went on to
comment that the lack of a corporate structure is pleasing. The
expansion will also give him personally the opportunity to do something
he has never been able to do in the past. “Park my car by my office.”
The Grandview next door to South Point is a Time Share project which
will eventually include 4,000 units, making it the largest time share in
the country and enhancing the destination. Gaughan is pleased to note
that he now has the only property in town where you can ride a horse in
the morning, play bingo after lunch, catch a matinee at the theatre, eat
dinner at a AAA 4-Diamond Award winning restaurant, and see a world
renowned act in the showroom , all without leaving the resort.
The South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa is located at 9777 Las Vegas Blvd,
South.

Sala At
The Palazzo Adds Spice To The Vegas Scene
When Michael Politz, publisher/CEO of Food & Beverage Magazine, issues
an invitation, the odds are overwhelming indicative of a good place and
a good time. So, responding to Michael’s invitation, I stopped by Sala,
the lounge at Dos Caminos at the Palazzo last week.

The new lounge adds a spicy twist to the Las Vegas night life scene with
inventive cocktails and bottle service and late night dining from the
Dos Caminos kitchen. They’ve got more than 35 unique tequilas by the
bottle and a lounge menu from the Dos Caminos kitchen that should
satisfy late night cravings and provide lounge-goers with the sustenance
to last into the wee hours of the morning.
Chef Scott Linquist, Author with Joanna Pruess of “Mod Mex Cooking
Vibrant Fiesta Flavors at Home” created the menu which includes many
Mexican favorites which combine tradition and inventiveness.

I didn’t have time to sample the food during my visit, but had a taste
of the guacamole at the Palazzo’s grand opening and made a mental note
that I’ve got to go back for more of the Mexican staple. And maybe some
Lamb Shank Barbacoa or Grilled Marinated Skirt Steak. I saw some food
going by while I was there and it looked like the drinks won’t be the
only stars of the night. But don’t limit yourself to the wee hours. Many
of the dishes serve well as happy hour appetizers
The décor, designed by David Rockwell transports the customers into the
Mexican feelings that carry over into the drinks and food. Keeping with
Vegas tradition, the room is dimly lit and offers small back of the room
areas for quiet conversation and deal making.
